If I am being selfish like my past, I would not have written this review to let you know that this is such a great book for personal change. I changed instantly after following a couple of the exercises explained in the book. After going through the exercise of "Fast Phobia Method" and "Recoding Past Unpleasant Experiences", it helped me to regain much of my self-confidence back, which was results of an unpleasant past. The book would not be an easy read for non-NLPers, but the authors did try very hard to explain the "how's" and "why's" of the exercises introduced in the book. More importantly, they picked those essential NLP techniques for life change, which makes the book invaluable. Although this is an NLP book from the eighties, IMHO, it sheds more lights than many of the more contemporary ones. I fully recommend this book if you want to use NLP to improve yourself. My advice is to work through those exercises that fit you and reflect on the resulted changes.

Although books by Bandler & Grinder are "from the horse's mouth", this book presents a wide spectrum of applications complete with wonderfully explicit directions that virtually anyone can follow to achieve behavioral change. As a Master Practitioner of NLP, I have found this book to be a fabulous resource and frequently recommended it to clients who want to know more about Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

This book contains 21 chapters, each of which deals with the application of NLP techniques to a particular problem. A couple of examples are given for each case. Chapter titles include "Learning To Spell", "Responding Resourcefully To Criticism", "Phobias, Traumas And Abuse", "Parenting Positively", "Resolving Grief", "Positive Motivation" and "Engaging Your Body's Natural Ability To Heal". So, a good reference book, equally good to dip into now and again or to read all the way through.

I've been facinated with NLP for years. I tried reading and learning about it from R. Bandlier's books, but found them too complicated for me at this level. Heart of the Mind was exactly what I needed. It gives practical, easy to follow instructions that I can try on myself. It has 'encouraged' me to find an NLP practicioner to work with to help me with some of the techniques.

From my experiemce, some parts of Heart of the Mind tell how to do,and some others are inspirational and leave you some clues about how to do it.(english is my second language).
Therefore for NLP Practitioners, the clues should be exciting enough to test wether you get good grasp on NLP but not for the non practitioners.
However Heart of the Mind and Reframing helps me inspired and got rid of my asthma since I was a kid. By the way I did it myself.
My guess is Heart of the Mind is meant to tell how far NLP can do for the welness of human being and provides some steps for you to do it yourself.
I hope it is useful for you.

This is a book you can pick up and benefit from without having to have read the book cover-to-cover firtst. Just turn to whatever you're interested in, and read that section to use quickly. A real time-saver. Very practical applications for issues hypnotherapists such as myself frequently encounter.

Even if you are not familiar with all the terminology that goes along with NLP, this book is user friendly. I used the grief exercise with a friend and it helped her immensely.

The book itself is brillaint. However I purchased the digital version (Kindle), which contains mistakes: wrong characters, missing sentences, mixed up pages. Amazon refunded the price, but I still don't have the book....

...And I've ready many, including other NLP books. I found this to be chock-full of fascinating and useful ideas, and kept on flagging pages I wanted to share with friends as I went along - it would also be such a good introduction to the wonders of NLP (and one's own brain!). By the end of the book, I'd identified -many- techniques that I wanted to try for myself, for a variety of issues. (So too did the stuff to show friends mount up - clearly they need access to the whole book as much as I do!) The most exciting was changing my whole timeline construction, which immediately led to an overall improvement in my mood and approach to life (and now I'll work through others one by one). I'm very impressed with the authors' native resourcefulness in finding ways to accommodate each person's unique "complications" and individual parameters, and the many examples from their client and teaching work are -highly- instructive. ...So that, while you can dip into the book according to chapter topic (types of things to change, essentially), reading through to the end gives much greater insight into how you might go about doing -any- of the suggested techniques (with yourself or as an aide to others). Our minds are so amazingly flexible! - and it's a huge blessing to find a book that makes it easy to readily make critical, life-changing adjustments to our subconscious patterning. It all makes sense, once you realize that we code our experiences in pictures, sounds, smells/tastes, "feels", and not just words and emotions.
