The Boys Are Back Where They Belong!,
By Gene Reasoner (Nixa, Missouri) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
Wow! The Oaks back doing the stuff they cut their teeth on. This record reminds me why I've been an ORB fan for so long. I love all their secular hits but this is where they belong! This is the best record they've done in years. The authentic ORB sound with the best of today's production. Every man sings as good as I've ever heard them. This project shows why Duane Allen is still the greatest lead singer in Gospel music. Golden has never sung better and Joe and Richard also turn in stellar performances. Also there are no weak songs on this album. The only way they can top this one is to do a reunion project with Willie Wynn, Tommy Fairchild, and other ORB alumni. You'll love this one!

"From The Heart" best ever!,
By
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
The Oak Ridge Boys left gospel music to persue a career in country, but their hearts never left. Southern Gospel was ALWAYS a part of their show (and some of their albums). Now, 25 years after they left gospel, they've released "From The Heart," 11 new songs produced by renowned gospel producer Michael Sykes (the Martins, Gaither Vocal Band) and Oak member Duane Allen. The songs are nothing but top-notch! From the bouncy opening of "I'm Working On A Building" to the touching message of "Loving God, Loving Each Other," the Oaks return to their gospel roots and give us an album that truely is from the heart. Other songs include "Fall To Fly," a moving ballad about God giving His children room to grow, "I Know What Lies Ahead," the first single (and one of the best southern gospel songs I've ever heard!), and a new, rockin' rendition of the old classic, "Angels Watching Over Me." If you are a fan of gospel music at all, you MUST have this CD!

Oak Ridge Boys - From the Heart,
By William W. Streett, Jr (Glen Rock, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
From the Heart marks the Oak Ridge Boys' return to thier roots in Southern Gospel music. But even if you are not sure you are a Gospel music fan, this album showcases the legendary talents of this familiar quartet of singers who have scored on Country, Pop, Adult Contemporary, as well as Gospel charts. True to character, the Oaks open up this album with "I'm Working on a Building, an upbeat, high energy, rollicking tune which promises the listener a good time with great music and a great chance to sing-a-long with the Boys. Richard Sterban, the Oak's incomparable bass singer teases us by hitting some of his lowest notes yet (only to go even lower in later tracks). Fun is followed by introspection, as William Lee Golden's wispy mountain voice takes the listener on a lesson-filled pilgrimage in "Show Me the Way to Go". No sooner have the Mountain Man's notes faded away, the Oaks' infectious energy once again gets a person's toe to tapping and spirit to flying with "I Know What Lies Ahead". And so it goes through the entire cd. The ballads are powerful and meaningful and the fast ones rock the soul. "From the Heart" is gospel music as only the Oak Ridge Boys can deliver it.

What? No solo for Richard?,
By "hiattsessions" (Kansas City, MO United States) - See all my reviews

I agree with all the other reviews, almost. This is truly a great album - the only thing missing is a full solo (at least a verse) by bass singer Richard Sterban. Sterban, probably the best bass singer since the late Big Chief (gospel fans will remember), hits plenty of solid low notes, but nary a solo was given to him. Producers Sykes & Allen, next time? At any rate, get this CD - you'll play it over and over whether you're a lover of southern gospel, an Oaks fan, or a newcomer to this style of music.

In my career as a Southern Gospel Music Radio DJ, I have found no other group as consistant in their music as THE OAKS. I have followed them for over 30 years both as a fan and and professionally... This new album of Southern Gospel Music has been a long awaited result of Born Again Christians giving their testimony the only way they know how IN SONG... I personally think this CD will be a treasure for generations in the future to enjoy and share SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC at it's BEST By the BEST MALE QUARTET ON EARTH THE OAKRIDGE BOYS

High "praise" for the Oaks!,
By Rex Kamstra (Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
After the horrible "Revival" gospel set a few years back (no thanks to Leon Russell's aweful, cheesy production), it's refreshing to hear the Oaks return to their gospel roots with a full-blown, high quality set of inspirational tunes sure to please any fan of four-part harmony. All the Boys are in top form on this set, with Richard Sterban hitting some new "lows" in the bass department (subwoofer REQUIRED!). 'Fall To Fly' shows amazing tenderness by tenor Joe Bonsall, who usually gets the lead vocal duty on uptempo songs. 'Write Your Name Across My Heart' would be a huge country OR pop single, if it weren't for the biased radio programmers of today. Even if you don't like the message, buy it for the harmonies!

I Believe!,
By Cynthia S Harvey (Romeoville, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
I believe this set is a keeper- I believe this is the finest recording the Oaks have made in their long exhaustive career. I believe their voices have become richer and fuller with age and I believe this music lifts from your speakers and becomes a life-form within itself. This music is heartfelt, alive and sung with such strength and confidence that only seasoned veterans such as the Oaks could ever pull it off! This is heart music! It grabs you, lifts you, brings you up and makes you smile. Even Golden manages to stay on key most the time. Bill Golden is such an assett to the group- his voice isn't as fluid as the rest- you can really hear him put his all into hitting those notes- and you want to give him a standing ovation every time he does- because he sounds great- and you can just tell how hard he worked for it. This CD is a blessing. I loved it. All the Oaks are in a great form and the music has a message- what more could you ask for.

Goosebumps Guaranteed!,
By Dianne Venzon (Stockton, CA - USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Audio CD)
This all-new gospel cd by The Oak Ridge Boys will touch your heart, get your toes and fingers tapping, give you goosebumps, and have you singing out loud in your car (or wherever!)... you're going to LOVE it! I haven't taken it out of my cd player since I received my copy in May! Their voices are so clear, and the four-part harmonies are beyond comparison, not to mention the inspirational lyrics from some of today's most talented songwriters. I still haven't decided on a favorite cut; it's too difficult to pick, but adding this cd to your collection will be an easy choice!
