Book Description

June 1, 1996
Reunited with Lord Nicholas Wyndham, raven-haired Ariel Rushdon finds Nicholas a mere shadow of his former self--he's now pale, melancholy, and unable to recognize her. As his memory clears and their passion reignites, Ariel realizes that someone in Nicholas' manor is out to kill him--and her.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Ariel Margaret Rushdon returns to the British estate of Walthamstow in 1800, intent on revenge against her former lover, Lord Nicholas Wyndham. She has spent two years committed to a sanitarium against her will and from which her newborn baby was stolen by the Wyndhams. Posing as his hired model, Maggie finds Nicholas a physical and emotional wreck, and despite her anger over being jilted for the now dead wife and having her baby stolen, she cannot resist falling in love with Nicholas all over again. Sutcliffe (Devotion, Jove, 1996) delivers a dramatic story that is longer on atmosphere and mystery than romance. It does feature a wounded hero but reads more like a rather heavy-handed Gothic.?MKC

5.0 out of 5 stars I read the entire book in one sitting!, May 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Heart Possessed (Paperback)
I bought this book on a whim, being that I had never bought one of Ms. Sutcliffe's books before. I ended up reading the entire book (I stayed up until 5:30 AM on a work night!) I could not put this book down! It displayed all of my favorite attributes of historical romance, and the plot was amazing! I just wish Ariel would have been a little more sympathetic to Nicks condition. This book left me hanging on edge until the very last page! A must read!

I, like another reviewer Couldn't put this book down! I was so enthralled. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book. Yes it was a darker love novel then your average romance but this I felt wasn't an average book. Lord Nicholas Wyndham is accused of killing his first wife lady Jane. But with no memory of the tragic event and not to mention his fits of rage everyone deems him insane! Ariel Rushdon has a score to settle with the Lord, and sets her revenge into action when she gains entry into Walthamstow and into his Lords life again!!! Read to find out what happens next this is a Great BOOK!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad... just not that special..., January 14, 2006
Personally, I don't like romances written in the first person perspective... It takes away from the novel because I'm not able to see the relationship from the point of view of both the hero and heroine. I can't track the connection between the lovers and I can't tell when the other person falls in love, or if it's just lust, you know what I mean?

Umm... the relationship between Nick and Ariel is not as passionate as I would have liked. Mostly, it's just Nick being crazy, and Ariel trying to keep him sane.
Um...Man, I wish I could say more...it's just... the book didn't leave much of an impression on me, y' know?

I give this a 3 for being not too bad...but could have been better
