5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST OF EARLY REBA!
Its music like this that made me a Reba fan. This music is a joy to listen to because Reba is so alluring in her vocal style and her presence! She doesn't perform over the top. Just gives us beautiful songs with a beautiful voice that warms the heart "Love by Love". Yes, add this one to your Reba collection. It is well worth it!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ballads dominate this album
The jewels of this album are held solely by the ballads. The rest of this album kinda fizzles, however..."How Does It Feel to Be Free" is worth ten dollars all on its own. This song is a preview of music yet to come from this blossoming diva. Also notable is the single "Today All Over Again," and "Small Two Bedroom Starter." The latter...

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE IS TOP-NOTCH!!!, September 15, 2005

From the first song, "Indelibly Blue" to "Love by Love" the last cut, this is first-class all the way. Too many people dismiss Reba's time with the Mercury label as "wasted". I disagree. She recorded some of her best work for the label...certainly grades above her nineties pop material where she's trying to be a modern-day Paula Abdul. When I pop this into my CD player and listen to the beautiful songs, coupled with Reba's sensitive yet strong handling of all the material, I just close my eyes and I am taken to another world. This is the real Reba McEntire folks.....not the Hollywood wannabe who abandoned her roots. This is a top-notch sampling of those roots.

5.0 out of 5 stars VINTAGE REBA AT HER VERY, VERY BEST!!, September 14, 2005

One of my favorite Reba CDs from her early years. This "Mercury" project boasts some of the finest work she ever did!! I love every song on this CD its hard to pick out a favorite. I guess my favorite would be her top five hit "Today All Over Again" proving that Reba has no peer when it comes to a good country waltz!! But this is a fine showcase from a lady, who, when given the right material is unbeatable. You won't find quality like this on her 90s material!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An early classic, October 19, 2003
This review is from: Heart to Heart (Audio CD)
This 1981 album provided Reba with her first top five country hit, Today all over again, and included many other fine songs, including a stunning recording of Only you (and you alone), the old Platters hit from the fifties. Other great songs here include Gonna love you till the cows come home (also recorded by Janie Fricke) and How does it feel to be free.

My favorite of all the songs here is Small two-bedroom starter, a song that tells the sad story of a house that is owned by a succession of couples each of whom has to sell and move on. It is a classic country song of the type you either love or hate.

Reba recorded many fine albums in the eighties that are well worth seeking out and this is one of them, but if you are unfamiliar with Reba's Mercury recordings, I suggest you begin with Oklahoma girl, a double CD that contains many of her classic songs from this period, which I've already reviewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL ALBUM, December 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart to Heart (Audio CD)
This is a truly beautiful album from the years when Reba was just getting started and she was on Mercury, a fact that somehow few music aficionados know now. But her Mercury albums stand up to all her best work in light of the traditional vein. This album has some beautiful gems on it...including her top five hit "Today, All Over Again", "Love by Love", "Small Two Bedroom Starter" and "Indelibly Blue" even though one does notice that she goes flat on one note of that last song. But not to worry. For the true 'early' Reba fan, you cannot go wrong with this one. Too bad she can't go back to singing this way.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOW THIS IS THE REBA I LOVE!!, September 26, 2005

Every song on here is just perfect for Reba. Even the corny titled "Gonna Love You Till the Cows Come Home"...which, with that steel, is a great traditional song!! The best one is her top five single "Today All Over Again". That one is superb!! I also loved "Small Two Bedroom Starter" and "Love by Love". I could have done without "Who" though....whooooowhooowhooowhooo!!!
That was one bad song. But one bad song on a CD is not enough for me to give it less than 5 stars when I usually wind up giving Reba one star for her albums...her later ones, that is.

I wonder why so many fans and Reba herself dismiss her years from Mercury??? She did some of her finest work there under producer Jerry Kennedy who is responsible for many hits with "The Statler Bros.", "Johnny Rodriguez" and many more. This CD is well worth the money. Every song on here merits five stars and Reba's performances on each one 10 stars!!! Give this one a try....you WILL NOT be disappointed!!!
