Book Description

April 10, 2007
The first-ever book from popular and respected Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts, filled with her own hard-won insights into what makes success

While most people will say that the key to success is a willingness to break the rules, to think outside the box, to ignore boundaries, Robin Roberts -- whose own spectacular success as a college basketball star, ESPN commentator, and co-anchor on Good Morning America is undisputed -- is here to tell readers differently. In her considerable experience, there are seven rules whose importance cannot be ignored, and which must never be broken if true, meaningful success is the goal. In the tradition of bestsellers like Maria Shriver’s And One More Thing Before You Go, Anna Quindlen’s A Short Guide to a Happy Life, and Marlo Thomas’ The Right Words at the Right Time, From the Heart is the perfect gift for new grads, and an inspiring read for anyone searching for the path to success.

About the Author

Robin Roberts is a co-anchor of Good Morning America. A native of Pass Christian, Mississippi, she was a college basketball legend and served as the commentator on the WNBA for ESPN. Roberts lives in New York City.

From AudioFile

From her hardscrabble TV career and college basketball experience, the former ESPN commentator knows the pressure of competition. Sounding like an underdog whos worked against difficult obstacles on her way to the top, shes compiled seven rules: position yourself to take the shot; dream big but focus small; if at first you dont succeed, dive back in; never play the race, gender, or any other card; venture outside your comfort zone; focus on the solution, not the problem; and keep faith, family, and friends close to your heart. Illustrating her lessons with stories from her family and professional life, she is a convincing and sincere speaker, a wholesome role model for any young woman who feels disadvantaged or experiences discrimination. We all know and love Robin Roberts from Good Morning America. She has shared her strength and gentle sensitivity with us all each day. In particular we were drawn closer to her with the unfortunate death of her father and her reporting of Katrina, from her home town. Her writing style is as natural as her on air personality. She engages the reader in a conversation into which you are drawn and she shares her greatest life learnings. In true gracious style she does not require the reader to adopt her life views or perceptions, but writes in a way that allows the reader to make an inquiry into the truth of their own life. Well done Robin. We all love you and wish you continuing success. YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly from the Heart, April 14, 2007
This review is from: From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By (Hardcover)
This book was wonderful. It was truly heartfelt and inspiring. The author genuinely spoke from her heart and allowed you to see her and her family from the perspective of just being ordinary people. Many of the items she touched upon is truly recognizable in what kids/people are experiencing today -- especially with the fear of the unknown or not knowing what they want to do with their life. She allowed you as the reader to see that those feelings of uncertainty are normal and even the most successful people have fears and setbacks; however, what I liked most about the book was how her life transformed from her upbringing. There were rules, guidelines, constant guidance, and most importantly PRAYER in her upbringing. Her parents were wonderful in that they were not trying to befriend their children. They truly knew there role and did an exceptional job of rearing all of there children. Robin's book highlights the LOVE, RESPECT, and ADMIRATION she has for her family, friends, and community. I must add before I conclude that Sally Ann Roberts, her sister, is truly a blessing to the citizens of New Orleans, LA. She speaks about Sally in her book and I as a viewer of Sally Ann truly understands where her SPIRIT (light) is derived from after reading Robin's book. God Bless and much LOVE to the Robert's Family...

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, October 17, 2007

This is a very inspirational book. Robin Roberts does an excellent job of describing how she got to where she is today -- giving her parents much credit for her strong family and spiritual beliefs. She gives encouragement for anyone to work for their dreams because they can be attained -- don't give up at the first rejection. I think this would be an excellent gift for a high school graduate.
