3.0 out of 5 stars A good story....
Firstly, Tracey Fobes is a talented writer. She made the scenes, characters and actions come to life. Very vivid writing. The reason I give this 3 stars is that, yes, the book starts out wonderfully exciting. It hooks you. For a while it was a page-turner, and then somewhere mid-way the fire kind of died out for me until closer to the end where it became a bit more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb paranmoral historical romance, June 12, 1999

In 1593 the Vicar of Bedfordshire, Edward Drakewyck forces Morgana Fey to give up the magical dove she possesses. Assisted by Henry Clairmont, Edward places Morgana into an eternal sleep. However, before succumbing to the warlock's spell, Morgana glimpses into the future and based on that she places a curse on the ancestors of her two enemies. Edward leaves a note to his descendants warning them not to ever marry a Clairmont.

In 1856, Lucinda Drakewyck dabbles in magic over the objections of her beloved uncle. She begins to have visions of her future soul mate, a handsome person she dubs Lancelot. She also has nightmares about a soulless witch causing problems for herself and her beloved. When she meets Crimean War veteran, Richard Clairmont she recognizes him as Lancelot. When the duo touch the magical Dove at the same time, they release Morgana, who seeks vengeance on the Drakewycks and Clairmonts. As Richard and Lucinda fight for their lives, they fall in love, an emotion this couple cannot afford in light of the curse.

THE HEART OF THE DOVE is a magnificent otherworldly historical romance that will leave fans of both sub-genres fully elated and clamoring for more works by Tracy Fobes. The story line is filled with non-stop action and tension. The lead protagonists are a wonderful couple struggling with their growing love that cannot be consummated with the curse hanging over their heads. The malevolent Morgana makes magic seem real. Readers will want to peruse Ms. Fobes' other paranormal romance, TOUCH NOT THE CAT, after this terrific tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Encore!!, September 7, 1999

I gobbled up Tracy Fobes' first book TOUCH NOT THE CAT in three days. (That's fast for me). HEART OF THE DOVE was read just as quickly. I am in love with this writer's writing, and her style of paranormal/historical romances. Keep up the fine work. She's an auto-buy for me, and I'll be on the lookout for more authors who offer these types of stories! If you love light paranormal (not futuristic) in a historical setting (these are Regency), you'll love this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trend for the New Millenium!!!!!!, June 16, 1999
This review is from: Heart of the Dove (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Fobes has done it again! True to her first novel, "Touch Not the Cat", Tracy has created a heroine that is powerful, potentially dangerous, and sensual (as well as kind and loving). Her hero though troubled, is courageous enough to protect her, self confident enough to allow her to defend him. This book is Sleeping Beauty with a twist. The ending is more than satisfying, its a revelation that love can triumph over all. Amazing! It is my fondest wish that these type of characters will "catch on" as we move into the next century.

The reason I give this 3 stars is that, yes, the book starts out wonderfully exciting. It hooks you. For a while it was a page-turner, and then somewhere mid-way the fire kind of died out for me until closer to the end where it became a bit more difficult to pick up the book. The plot just conveniently "wrapped itself up" a bit too neatly and quickly for me with all the suspense we were forced to go thru for many, many chapters. Overall, I would recommend it because it is so different and entertaining. I will likely read another Fobes book in the future, though, to compare....possibly the one that sparked it all....Touch Not The Cat?

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up for Heart of the Dove!, March 1, 2000

I love the way Tracy Forbes writes. She has such a way with words. There were many people who suggested this book to me and I finally picked it up and I'm glad I did!

Tracy Fobes captivates you from the very first page and keeps you interested until the very last page. I gave the book to my husband (who does not read romance novels of any sort), convinced him to at least read one page and he finished the book within two nights time! Keep up the great work Tracy!
