2.0 out of 5 stars He's SOOO macho!
This book gets a 3 for unintentional humorous content. This young man is so involved with making himself look macho that he comes off looking foolish. I hope that someday he'll grow up and realize that leather, motorcycles and "macho-talk" do not make you a man.

I cannot put this book down. The pictures are some of the best I've ever seen. I especially liked his philisophical views on winning and losing. I also like the way he leaves us wanting for more. I hope he writes a sequal very soon!!!

I've always admired Elvis Stojko, and carefully watched his career. The Olympics aren't the same without his participation! One of my favorite ice skaters. He is so exciting to watch on ice.

There were so many beautiful pictures in the book. But, I was hoping for more personal information about him. I wish he had spoken more in depth about his Olympics experiences, the feelings, the athletes, disappointments, etc. There was very little of that in this book. There are loads and loads of gorgeous pictures of him which any fan can appreciate.

Still, it's a good book to have if you are an Elvis Fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The skating book of the year, July 20, 1998
This review is from: Heart and Soul (Hardcover)
I couldn't have been more impressed with this oversized, picture packed coffee table book. Rather than following the same old biography style, and sharing all the details of his family life, Elvis gives his readers a peak into the mind of world champion figure skater. For his fans, it was a chance to get to know him a bit more and the title couldn't be more fitting to someone who always gives his all to his performances. I appreciate his honesty and his humility as he shares about his experiences.

A very inspiring and delightful book with some great *quotables* in it! I look forward to enjoying some more awesome skating from this classy champion!

A must-have for all skating fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great look into the mind of a great skater, July 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart and Soul (Hardcover)
This book is exceptional in that it gives one a look at one of figure skating's most enigmatic figures, Elvis Stojko. His unconventional style has often thrown skating purists for a loop, and being able to read his thoughts, motivations, and methods for reaching his goals helps one to understand why he is so loved and admired by his many fans. If I have one complaint, it's that the book should have been done after the Nagano Olympics, considering all that transpired. It's for this reason the book has an unfinished feel... but I wouldn't mind a sequel. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but still a great book!, July 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart and Soul (Hardcover)
I had ordered Heart and Soul online, so I had no idea what was in the book. At first I was disappointed. I thought it would be more writing about his life, his family, growing up, etc. You know, sort of a novel-type book. But as I began flipping through the pages, I was captivated by the gorgeous pictures, but once again, I found myself disappointed because there was no picture of him doing his quad! Oh well! After looking through the book time and time again, I have come to really enjoy it. I think anyone who loves Elvis will love this book. I just hope that if he does another book, it'll be a longer one about his life story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning photos show intimate portrait of skating superstar!, July 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart and Soul (Hardcover)
This book is a must for any fan of men's figure skating, featuring hundreds of photos of the sport's newest legend, Elvis Stojko. In addition, the accompanying text is the skater's own words on striving for excellence, competing, expressing himself on the ice, touring and family-- full of insight into this fascinating athlete.

The photos, by the talented Gerard Chataigneau, capture the very essence of this multifaceted young man, in a variety of situations from the Olympics to relaxing with his friends and family. It's truly an inside look at a top skater.

In this age of sound bites and packaging, it's refreshing to see an athlete who is true to what he believes in, his own vision. Elvis is one inspiring man and this book is a delight!
