My interest in Jane Froman began over 40 years ago whe I saw the movie "With a Song in My Heart" starring Jane Froman. In those pre internet days I could find only a few articles in the Readers Guide at the public library. Last November there was a great celebration on what would have been her 100th birthday, in her home town. She was a real American Hero with a voice like an angel.

This CD contains some of the best loved songs in the Froman repertoire - including her rendition of "Summertime", reputedly Gershwin's favorite version of his classic;"It Ain't Necessarily So", a favorite of Presidents FDR, Truman and Eisenhower; Begin the Beguine". The collection spans time from her earliest recordings, and includes two songs from "Artists and Models", the short-lived stage production in which she appeared, virtually immobile, just months after the plane crash.
This is a must have - for anyone who wants the pleasure of listening to one of the greatest interpreters ever of American popular music!

Jane Froman was severely injured in a plane crash while travelling to entertain our troops in WWII. She was much loved for her efforts and her artistry, but since music is now considered passe, she may not be everyone's cup of tea. Those who enjoyed Kathleen Battle in more recent times will enjoy Ms. Froman, as I did.

You must also be prepared for the limited audio quality of the earlier days. While this is probably as good a recording of these songs that are available, the audio quality does vary from song to song, depending on when and where they were recorded.
