A great tool,
By
This review is from: Heart Steps (Mass Market Paperback)
I love almost everything Julia Cameron has done. I read something from "Heart Steps" each day when I sit down to write. It invariably helps me feel centered & focused. It's best used in conjunction with some of the other tools Cameron has created, such as "The Artist's Way," the practice of morning pages & perhaps an audio edition of "Heart Steps" &/or "Blessings" in the car. I also love Cameron's brand of sprituality because it neither whacks non-Christians over the head with Christianity nor criticizes Christians--it's ideal for anyone independently seeking their own conception of a Higher Power, including those skeptical about traditional organized religion. Cameron's books & tapes also are ideal for creative people in 12 Step programs. "Heart Steps" is a wonderful little volume that can be savored over months as part of a daily practice.

peaceful reflections,

Like another book that I reviewed by this author (Blessings: Prayers and Declarations for a Heartful Life) this book provides life affirming reflections written by the author. These reflections are religious in nature but are non sectarian, i.e., they are appropriate for all faiths: Christians, Jews, Moslems, etc. When you need spiritual reflections to help you connect with God, this peaceful book fills the bill. When you need thoughts to reaffirm your worth in the scheme of things, this book is for you. I recommend it.

Buy the Audio!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart Steps (Audio Cassette)
The audio version of this publication features readings from the book by the author and Tim Wheater, whose flute music plays hauntingly in the background. Use this tape frequently as your OWN positive affirmation by repeating after the authors. You will feel the impact immediately!

I have Julia Cameron's books on "The Artist Way" and knew her to be both inspiring and very practical. Since I follow the guidance of my heart, when I saw her little book, "Heart Steps", I knew I wanted it. Because of its nice, little gems of wisdom, it felt right to include reading it as a regular part of my morning meditation and prayers. I took her advice and started reading only one passage per day. I read the passage out loud, three times. I find I open up to more wisdom and inspiration with each repetition. I'm also experiencing a wonderful synchronicity with the morning's passage and what's going on in my life. I love this litte book and highly recommend it to anyone who's inner spirit guides them to it.

Not for me,
By merrymousies (Waterford, VA USA) - See all my reviews

A bit too heavy on the "God" reference for me - I find my spirituality in nature and our mother earth. The passages are not poetic at all - they're declarations like the subtitle states - e.g. I will do X, I will do Y. The short quotes and titles to the passages are more inspiring & thought provoking than the passages themselves.

I recently bought the Artist Way books, plus several otehr of her writing, & creativity, volumes, and have begun the Artist Way program. This little book of Prayers, and short essays, meant to inspire your creative life, are a rousing, moving, soothing, collection of writing meant to help any writer, or wannabe writer, get in touch with their creativity, and be encouraged to write more, and better. The contents of this book are meant to be read, and re-read, and thoughtfully considered as the reader embarks on his, or her, creative journey. A wonderful companion to the book that came after, Blessings, which I am now reading. |
