5.0 out of 5 stars excellent blend of literature and biographies, April 2, 2011
This review is from: The Heart of Virtue: Lessons from Life and Literature Illustrating the Beauty and Value of Moral Character (Paperback)
This a perfect combination of stories describing lives that personify each virtue with philosophical discussions on what each virtue has come to mean in western culture. There is a great emphasis on philosophical influences from Aquinas, Augustine, and other well respected figures. This a tremendous launching pad to understanding how virtues apply to our own life and the fruit they bear in interactions with others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart of Virtue - nice book!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heart of Virtue: Lessons from Life and Literature Illustrating the Beauty and Value of Moral Character (Paperback)
I am one of Professor DeMarcos many Philosophy students at the University of Waterloo/Ontario. This book is actually a very nice book to read and to own; it has a lot of beautiful and interesting stories and it is a valuable "Bildungsroman". I finally have a list of all the virtues + their explanations and good examples. The links to Christianity or religion related stories are really good. Could it be that spiritual or religious people have more virtues than others or is that again a matter of belief? Not many philosophers believe in God, or am I wrong?
