Two DP Classics,
By Louisiana Lady (Louisiana USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heart Of Winter: Woman Hater\If Winter Comes (Hardcover)
Book Description: WOMAN HATER - Everyone in the office described the boss's mysterious older brother as wary of the female of the species--a real woman hater. He'd been burned in the past, and now was twice shy, to say the least. So when Nicole White had to travel with her ailing employer to his brother's home in Montana, she was prepared for the worst. What she found was a man more roughly masculine than any she'd ever met. But Winthrop Christopher's distrust of women ran straight to the bone. Nicki knew she should avoid him, but she couldn't hide from the feelings he stirred in her. Could she ever teach this woman hater to love again?
IF WINTER COMES - Charismatic Phoenix mayor Bryan Moreland had already won the devotion of his constituents and was well on his way to getting reporter Carla Maxwell's vote...until she found out that the hunky leader wasn't all he claimed to be. Rumor had it the popular politician was an embezzler. It was just a rumor, Carla told herself. As a reporter she'd have to get to the bottom of it; as a woman, she wanted nothing more than to lose herself in sexy Mayor Moreland's arms. Or was that exactly where he wanted her, for reasons other than love and seduction? Two Diana Palmer Classics, both reprints are solid stories well worth reading or re-reading. Both men may appear difficult or non-approachable initially but prove well-worth the effort in the end. Sure to please true DP fans.

It's ok for a rainy day,
By Majo (Argentina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heart Of Winter: Woman Hater\If Winter Comes (Hardcover)
I've just finished reading the book, and I am wondering what made me spent so much money in it (I live in Argentina so I paid the price plus the delivery cost). It's romance, but sad one. The heroines seem to believe they deserve to be treated bad just because of a tiny mistake, and the heroes..... they are rough, and bad tempered and treat the heroines very badly. When I finish reading a romance book, I'm usually happy, but this books made me sad.
It's an ok reading for a rainy day.... if you want to feel sad afterwards.

To sum up these two stories, think twelve year old girls with sex-starved older men. Not an ounce of romance to it. In both stories, the girls are said to be in their early twenties but their actions, minds and bodies are that of a sheltered 1950's twelve year old. They fall madly in love within minutes of meeting the considerably older, jaded, untrusting, driven-by-sexual-hunger male. There is no actual intercourse in either story because the girls are "saving themselves for marriage," but there's a lot of panting and fondling (which must not be included in their marriage package) in-between tons of outdated sniping and bickering.
In the first story, Woman Hater (1987), the "heroine" is really embarrassingly stupid. Fine example: she's out in the Montana wilderness and a guy comes in after hunting holding a bloody dead animal by the tail and she exclaims, "Oh! A wounded squirrel! Wait, I'll rush and get a bandage." ...I kid you not, and that was the high point of the story. In the second story, If Winter Comes (1979), the "heroine" is also very stupid but it's the maturity difference between the "hero/heroine" that makes this story a tad sick. He's the town's mayor and his repeated terms of endearment for her are "little girl," "little one," "little Carla," "crazy child," and my personal favorite, "little country mouse." Fetishes for wanting sex with a child aside, how the heck can you have feelings for a man who constantly refers to you as his "little country mouse"??? I'm not sure I even want to donate this book. Best used for a bird cage bottom.

These two stories are both good fast reading. They are reprints of the
earlier titles, but still worth reading again. If you collect DP you will be glad to have these in hardback.

I thought this book was really good. It's got two different stories, one about a guy who has been burned before and a rich young lady who helps him over come it, and they fall in love. Then there is another short story about a rich guy and a lady who fall in love. I thought it was sweet how they over come bounderies and how the guys keep the woman in the end.

One of my favorite from Ms. Palmer!,
This review is from: Heart Of Winter: Woman Hater\If Winter Comes (Hardcover)
Ms. Palmer is one of the best romance novelist. Her book is the first romance I've read and it sure is not the last! She brings up many great stroies that you will love to read. If you're looking for a fun, tender, loving, care, especially, the happy ever after ending! read Ms. Palmer's books.
I find it's so romantic when the male character who always seems rough around the edge become quite smitten once he meets the innocent young girl. However hard he tries to resist her in the begining will soon find it's impossible and has to surrender body, heart and soul. All in all, it's a double thumb up. I practically will have to look for her books somemore to read. |
