Perfect Pop Music!,
By Seb Jarakian "destroyrockandroll(dot)com" (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Heartbeat / Chewing Gum / Kiss Me (Audio CD)
I love this song as I can't stop listening to it. It's the perfect pop song! When was the last time I raved about a pop song?? Not for a long, long time!!! Anyway this is perfection. The remixes are just mediocre unfortunately. Actually the Alex Braxe remix is the best on here as it uses elements of the original track and it's recut, reedited and extended for a more dancey club friendly feel. This single also has a Mylo remix of Chewing Gum. I love this song too and the remix which sounds like an 80's dance pop track. I have to say Annie's music is so much fun! The last track is called Kiss Me. It's a great pop track and it's fun like the other Annie songs. Anyway forget the tradional American top 40 CRAP and go out and get this single as it's perfect!!!

Annie - Heartbeat,
This review is from: Heartbeat / Chewing Gum / Kiss Me (Audio CD)
HEARTBEAT, from Annie's overlooked debut, ANNIEMAL, isn't as immediately catchy as some of the other tracks, but the mixes here help elevate it. While Royksopp deliver an oddly dark (but appealing) mix, Maurice Fulton puts his own unique imprint on the track, going for a thick acid dub. The Phones Maximo mix should establish that Annie is more than a guilty pleasure: look, she embraces indie-IDM too! And the club kids can go for the Alan Braxe mix to get their house fix. Oddly enough, though, the catchiest track is Mylo's mix of "Chewing Gum," which retains (and perhaps enhances) the fun of the original and repositions it under the strobe lights. The b-side, "Kiss Me," is another little confection that sounds so good to the ears.

I love the album version of this song but I think it's eclipsed by the Alan Braxe (known for working with Daft Punk) remix. Totally amazing. I'm sure Saint Etienne loves it!
