A delightful work 0f romantic suspense,
This review is from: In a Heartbeat (Hardcover)
The urgent call sent millionaire Ed Vincent flying from Charleston to La Guardia in his Cessna in order to learn the identity of his rival on a property deal. After Ed debarks from his plane, a Sigma automatic greets him. In a coma, he is rushed to the hospital where the emergency staff struggles to save his life. Knowing he is going to die, Ed worries what will happen to his beloved Zelda, who will probably be the next target.Zelda, who is actually Melba Merrydew, rushes to the hospital because she plans to keep her new found love alive. Zelda meets NYPD detective Marco Camelia who is assigned to the case. A happily married man with four kids, Marco finds himself desiring Melba. As they work together to uncover a killer, someone wants to make Zelda toast. IN A HEARTBEAT is an exciting romantic suspense that fans of romance, police procedural, and thrillers will enjoy, particularly because of the exhilarating plot. The story line is fast-paced, loaded with twists and turns, and never eases up on the pace. Zelda and Ed (even in a coma) are wonderful characters, but readers will believe this novel belongs to the street tough, vulnerable Marco. Best-selling author Elizabeth Adler will gain a new group of fans with this superb story. Harriet Klausner

That's about how long it took me to read this book. Not because I'm slow, just because I did not enjoy it. If I didn't know any better I would have assumed this book was Adler's first attempt at a novel. But it isn't. Well, the main characters are likeable enough. I'll give her that. Except for the alcoholic old woman. She added nothing to the book. The plot is weak, there is too much dialouge, and too little effort put in. By the end of Ed's killer is revealed. I couldn't really recall why he wanted Ed dead. But I didn't care. I was just happy that I was done and that I could move on to something better. Do yourself a favor and pass on this book.

Stretches credibility,

The plot in this one stretches credibility about as thin as it can get with every new page. It's also just a little too sappy for my taste. But if you love those Hallmark movies then this is for you.

This review is from: In a Heartbeat (Hardcover)
Elizabeth Adler is a wonderful storyteller, and this book is no exception a real page turner. From the time Ed Vincent is shot at the airport, till the final page it will keep you guessing who is behind the plot to kill Ed and his lover the wonderful Melba Merrydew, (Zelda to Ed) and who can forget the wonderful, charming NYPD detective Marco Camelia, who himself is just a little in love with the wonderful Melba. Even though is Ed is in a coma he is reaching out to Melba, & she to him as all is revealed it this wonderful thriller. A fantasic and enjoyable read for all die hard Elizabeth Adler fans.

Utterly mediocre...,

Adler is par for the course here with "In A Heartbeat". A millionare with a shadowy past is gunned down by a mysterious hitman, and nearly dies. His girlfriend, Melba Merrydew and a determined NYPD homicide detective named Marco try to unearth the secrets of the man's past, and find the classic "Cain and Abel" story with a brother gone rotten killing for greed and for thrills. Of course, why the villain chooses to kill his brother after all these years escapes logic, as it would certainly mean his own death, and well..no surpises here. For a rainy weekend only.

I'm only up to Chapter 22 -- came on Amazon to see if this book had any hope of getting better. I think I'll spare myself and give up now. I'm just thankful I didn't buy this piece of... The dialogue is [bad]; the characters are completely one-dimensional. First and last time I'll read anything by this author.

Once again, Adler's book caught my attention and leave me wanting more. This is an overall good book with realistic characters, scenes full of suspences. I read this book from start to finish; there isn't a part that is boring.

Ed Vincent lies in a hospital bed with injuries from a gunshot wound. Detective Vincent has one clue, the name Zelda. But who is Zelda? When he finds Zelda another series of mysteries begin to emerge. Once I began this story I was hard pressed to put it down.

I liked It,

I read all the reviews and wondered if I should bother with this one but took the chance and doggone it, I rather liked it. It kept my attention from start to finish. Guess it's different strokes for different folks. I liked the characters and I thought the story interesting especially from Ed's point of view struggling to come out of his coma and being able to view things he was thinking. Okay it's not an award winning type of book but to me it was just entertaining. I do enjoy one often that makes you think such as a book by "Charles Martin" but at times I just want a good entertaining book and this was it.
