Mood creating blue jazz with smooth instrumentals and voice,
By A Customer
This review is from: Heartbeat (Audio CD)
Sakamoto is the master of all genres, and this album is no exception.
Begins with warmth, ends with peace, and a smattering of feelings in between. This runs the gamut of emotions, and is able to move you along with them. IF you want to enhance your mood and pick yourself up, get this CD. Track 4, LuLu is a very urban feel, much like Take Five. High Heels, on the other hand, (which is from a movie) is a very rainy-day in Paris feel, you can almost see rose petals falling on a gray backdrop. Very touching. I give this CD a high rating, and think it is universally appealing. Chris Born

Along with Sweet Revenge, probably my favourite Sakamoto album. Endlessly inventive and entertaining, it veers from jazz to rap to film soundtrack. Highlights are his solo piano tracks, and David Sylvian's contribution on the exquisite Hearbeat.

Whatever you want to call this collection, house, dance, pop, it's all good...This time Sakamoto has updated his pop-eclectic dance sound a notch or two from his previous titles...He shows he can still keep in touch and move with the times (even for the early 90's). Yet, the music maintains it's Japanese musical influences. One of the sweetest ear catching tracks is Sayonara (Good-bye) as Sakamoto sings with the silky background female vocals singing "sayonara"...All other tracks are pretty much a menagerie of catchy and dance accessible tunes !

RYUICHI'S BEST...Maybe.,

If you are a fan of Mr. Sakamoto, this is a must-have CD. He has such varied musical styles, but to me this CD is an example of his most contemporary and yet mainstream compositions. One of the things I love about the artist is that he always manages to include some of his brilliant Asian-flavored sounds as well...never forsaking his roots. I also recommend NEO GEO, which is this CD's forerunner. Heartbeat is a never-weary addition to your catalog. It is full of life, but with a few "rainy day" interludes.

This is one of Sakamoto's finer offerings, though "Beauty" will always be my favorite. "Heartbeat" is capable of creating lots of visual imagery and has calmed many an afternoon in rush hour traffic for me. This CD has great variety and like so many of his others, resembles a tasty little chocolate box. If you don't like the present track, push the button and you'll love the next one. Just buy it.
