3.0 out of 5 stars 80s Jansch, December 12, 2000

"Heartbreak" is not one of Jansch's better albums, despite a couple of bright spots and the fact that he shares much of the project with well-known guitarist Albert Lee. The bright spots are Jansch's version of 'Heartbreak Hotel,' which comes (very) surprisingly close to actually providing some competition for the King of Rock 'n Roll's permanently definitive version, and his interpretation of the folk classic 'If I Were A Carpenter.' Indeed, the latter may very well be the best rendition of this song ever recorded: the guitar playing is sweet and sorrowful, and here's one instance where Bert's gruff voice really completes the performance. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the album, including both traditional and original works in small combo or duet arrangement, is rather lacklustre, both in terms of material and level of performance....Unless you're a real Jansch fan and must have all of his material, you'd be better off concentrating first on picking up earlier, or more recent, material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, October 14, 2011
This review is from: Heartbreak (Audio CD)
Speaking personally I think this is one of the finest Bert albums, presenting his inimitable style and folk roots very well. His song selection is awesome, they are all about love and relationships, and definitely from the heart. Its a simply beautiful album, and i would highly recommend it.
