5.0 out of 5 stars Great transition
Wonderful transition from audio day dream. This album seems to accentuate a more mature, developed recording aspect, but at the same time keep a coherent upbeat tempo. I'm amazed at what Blake has so far released into the music industry and can't wait for more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Different take ...
Blake gets bonus points for being adorable and you can tell he LOVES music. I too loved Blake on Idol, but it was a package deal for me (personality, passion for music, unique take, etc). My music tastes are varied, with my first love being hard rock/metal, but when somebody is good at what they do, it catches my attention. Blake did on Idol. This CD just came today...

"Heartbreak On Vinyl" is not too different from Blake's first album, which is a good thing, because that one was awesome. I would call this one an up-to-the-minute mainstream album. So far, it doesn't seem to be doing too well on the Billboard album chart, and I don't understand why. Blake's voice is as good as ever: compelling, smooth, versatile. And the music is very Now, mostly an excellent blend of dance/disco, synth-pop, electronica and hip-hop. The title song is one of the best, with clever lyrics about vinyl LP's and a record store, both of which reflect events in his love life; and "Binary Love" is similar in sound and in use of word-play. With "Freak", we move into Timbaland territory musically, with Blake's verbal invitation to "move your body like a freak". In "Sad Song" he sings with a trace of a British accent, always a turn-on for me. "Left My Baby For You" has him using a little falsetto, a nice departure, not overdone. The brief "Super.....licious" is notable for beat-box vocals and cool, modern jazz piano. "Our Rapture Of Love" is a little slower (but not soft!) and romantic, musically echoing Til Tuesday's 1986 hit "Voices Carry". "The Point" is sort of an electronic piano ballad which showcases Blake's vocal range. Don't worry, the action picks up again on the final 2 tracks, especially "Love Or Torture": "Please don't stop/I wanna taste of what you got/I wanna know what gets you hot."

If you like Madonna, Justin T, Britney, Gwen Stefani, or even 80's dance music (Pet Shop Boys, for instance), you would probably like this. The important thing for this type of music is staying in the charismatic groove, which Blake Lewis does very well. In the end, the best compliment I can give this CD is that IT MAKES ME FEEL HAPPY!

Blake, I anxiously awaited the release of this new CD. I knew it would be outstanding and you did not disappoint. As much as I love "A.D.D."....."Heartbreak" absolutely breaks mine! Congratulations and much success on an incredible effort. Your lyrics, your sound, and your rhythm make my body rock!

I was a little disappointed with Audio Day Dream, Blake's first release. Blake is extremely talented--good voice, excellent musicianship and a lot of creativity. So, the expectations are really high for him. I actually thought twice about buying Heartbreak on Vinyl, but decided to anyway. I'm glad I did. Blake has many possible niches, and dance music is clearly one of them. He exploits the genre like Madonna exploits hair color--he tries many different nuances. Needless to say, all of the arrangements are impeccable and catchy. My favourite songs are Heatbreak on Vinyl, Our Rapture of Love, Binary Love, The Point, and Sad Song. The only one I could have done without is Superscratchalicious... I love the beatboxing, but I'm not sure that one minute of beatboxing for the sake of beatboxing is something I have figured out. However, the location of this song is reminiscent of the time when albums were on two sides on vinyl--artists frequently had to find something to end side A and to start side B. On that note, it works. Blake's knowledge of dance music is also evident. He incorporates elements of recent arrangements of dance classics into Afraid, Binary Love, Freak, and a few others, to create an effect of fitting in and at the same time standing out with his unique gifts. Needless to say, I love this album. I had been crying the blues since most albums had been a let down to me this year. In particular, I was devastated by the Pet Shop Boys and their very weak Yes album. They steered cleared from dance music and left a void that has been more than filled by Blake. I hope he has more like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreak On Vinyl Is An Amazing Masterpiece, October 13, 2009
This review is from: Heartbreak On Vinyl (Audio CD)
I got Heartbreak On Vinyl after hearing 4 songs from it on Blake's myspace. I was so hypnotized by Sad Song, Binary Love, Heartbreak On Vinyl, and Afraid that I knew HOV would be an excellent. I have been a fan of Blake's since American Idol. His voice is so amazingly SEXY. I am also glad that Love Or Torture(Please Don't Stop) was included on HOV the song was left off of Audio DayDream. It was another song that he co-wrote with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic. I think every song has it own touch and style. Some of them are the same style but definitely sound different. He does less beatboxing on HOV than he did on Audio DayDream. He has always had another amazing singing voice and I have the Kickshaw CD that is also amazing on the songs that Blake is singing the most on. I can definitely see some of these songs being on the dance chart and Some of them on Top 40 and R&B chart. I hope people will download his songs more on iTunes so he can get the airplay he deserves on radio. My favorite song on HOV is all of the songs. But I am so hoping that Afraid will be released as a single. I hope that clubs across the world will be playing songs from HOV. I can't stop listening to HOV and HOV will make you get up and dance and that is why I can't stop wanting to get up and dance when HOV is playing.
Buy it and you won't be sorry. It is worth every penny that you spend on HOV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album from start to finish! WOW!, October 13, 2009
This review is from: Heartbreak On Vinyl (Audio CD)
LOVE this CD! From start to finish! It will have you dancing, even if your just driving in the car! Much progress from Audio Day Dream, so different, but in a good way! This album is one of the best albums I've ever heard!

He beatboxes less on this album, but it's even more amazing than his first album! He proved he can do much more than beatboxing with this! His voice also sounds more mature and sexy on this record. For fans of his beatboxing, he does have hints of beatboxing in about all of the songs. Track 8 is simply pure amazing beatboxing and vocal scratching.

I believe that whether you loved or even hated his first album, "Audio Day Dream", you'll be sure to love this one! "Heartbreak On Vinyl" is worth every dollar you could ever pay for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for a great collection of mixture of dance, electronic, pop music, October 12, 2009

This is a sophomore album of Blake Lewis. While some of the songs on this album may sound slightly like a continuation of the melodies and productions from his first album, Audio Day Dream, Blake Lewis accomplishes more in Heartbreak on Vinyl. Blake Lewis working on this album with a new record company, surrounded himself by great producers and songwriters, who really understand Blake Lewis music and allow him to express his love for electronic and dance music, and capitalize on many of Blake Lewis strenghts. It is a thematically cohesive collection of tunes with a focus on loving, losing love, and moving on. Blake's vocals, lyrics, music will catch your attention and would make you want to spin the album again and again. While my personal favorites include "The point", "The remedy", "Rhythm of my heart", Heartbreak on Vinyl", "Our Rapture of Love", 'Rebel without a cause", "Binary Love", and 'Afraid", the entire album is undoubtedly worth listening and purchasing.

Blake's sophmore record is fantastic. Every song is worth listening to. Binary Love and Sad Song are my favorite songs at the moment. This is one of the best records ever released by a former Idol contestant. I can see this record climbing the Dance Music charts. Listen to the samples then buy it! You won't be sorry!

I loved Blake's first album ADD and still listen to it. Every song is great, so I always put the album on random. The same can be said for Heartbreak on Vinyl. Another awesome album that I will force upon all my friends. I saw Blake live for his last album, which was also amazing. If you have a chance, check out his video "CRAZY" on youtube. You will love it!!!!

This CD just came today for me, and all I can think of while listening is: BT !!! I love BT, am a huge fan, for a while now (and for many of the reasons I liked Blake). But the riffs, style of this CD is ala BT. Maybe Blake doesn't even realize it, since a little research turns up that he too is a huge BT fan. The unfortunate part for me is, I'm now stuck with a comparison of the two. Blake fans who mention that he is unique, go listen to clips of BT's "Movement In Still Life". BT can blow Blake out of the water ... BT is the master. I'm sorry, it's just true. Have high hopes for CD #3. Blake, please be Blake.
