Heartbreaker is one of the best selling albums of Dolly's career. Most critics at the time hated this ablbum but mostly for the simple reason of not wanting Dolly to do anything but pure country. This is actually a great CD that seems as though it was 20 years ahead of its time. This CD has Dolly doing what she can do better than anyone and that is variety. From disco to pop and back to country. I can't think of another CD with this much variety. It has the well written Dolly-penned Nickels and Dimes, very sad title song that shows Dolly's pop vocals, to the now disco-classic Baby I'm Burnin'. The thing that makes this CD great is that it is just simply put: very entertaining. You will not get bored with this CD. If you only like pure county you will not like this CD, but if you are like most people this day and time and enjoy a variety of styles this CD has it all. Let's hope one day Dolly returns to the crossover material that was loved by many. I love Dolly's pure country sound but since country radio refuses to play her I hope she will make music for the rest of the world that still loves her.

I love this CD. I had the album and played it out till it was skipped up. The first track gets you singing and just totally into the CD. She has some slow songs that I really enjoy " We're through forever till tommorrow" is the best one in my opinion.

Hello Dolly,

This is perfect for fans of Dolly who don't like music too country. It may be considered a "sell-out" for the die hard country fans, but if you like nice ballets and coolpop back ground music it's perfect. Timeless as well, they could all (almost all) be released today and not sound old. LOVE the title song and sorry but I like that she did some disco-ish songs, Baby I'm Burning is great! I like the Pop Dolly, if you like "Here you come again" this is along the same lines. If you like "Mule Skinner Blues" then you're one of the "she's a sell-out" crowd and wouldn't like this much. Us normal fans love this ;)

DOLLY DOES DISCO! (AND POP, AND A/C, AND COUNTRY, ETC),

Finally, Heartbreaker is available on CD... I almost wore out my vinly record. I bought this disc at the same time as her , "The Grass is Blue" cd. Definitely in the opposite direction.... which is good! (Both are great CD's for different reasons.) No, this cd isn't country; it is really pop music circa 1978. What is amazing is that Dolly can cover so many diverse musical genres. For me, this is what makes her such a great artist. Equally amazing is the fact that Dolly not only sings different genres on this record, but she also wrote and co-produced many of these songs ("With You Gone", "Baby, I'm Burnin'", "I Wanna Fall in Love"). The title track is definitely stunning with her shimmering soporano. The final track is flat-out funky! (Was Dolly the first white girl to do rap instead of Deborah Harry of Blondie? ). I agree with James' review.... I wish the re-release also included her extended dance remixes of "Baby, I'm Burnin'" and "I Wanna Fall in Love." Critics may complain about her pop recordings, but in all fairness, her pop records were extremely well-produced and consistent. (Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for her early "great" country records which can be somewhat uneven).I can't wait for the reissues of "New Harvest...First Gathering", "Great Balls of Fire," and "Dolly, Dolly, Dolly." It is interesting that some 20 years after the release of this album, Dolly released dance remixes of "Peace Train", "Two Doors Down" and "Walking on Sunshine".

"Heartbreaker...Couldn't You Be A Little More Kind To Me?",

Anyone who knows Dolly Parton's music knows about this record, Heartbreaker, which came out in 1978 and is known as Dolly's disco album. Following on the immense success of her million-selling "Here You Come Again" release, "Heartbreaker" sold 500,000 copies, continued Dolly's prominence on both the country and pop charts and would help garner her a win as Entertainer of the Year from the Nashville's CMA's, only the second female artist to do so.Going to #1 for an impressive 9 week run on the country side and #27 pop, "Heartbreaker" had two singles reaching #1 country, the title track (one of Dolly's most beautiful vocals ever) and "I Really Got The Feelin'". "Baby I'm Burnin" was huge on the dance and pop charts and to this day is still played in most dance clubs around the world. The album art was done by famed photographer Ed Caraeff who also did the art work for "Here You Come Again". To me this album features one of the best album covers in Dolly's career, a career that has seen her record over 80 albums! Unlike many of Dolly's RCA records "Heartbreaker" has seen a CD release 3 times and has sold over a million copies, although the Recording Industry of America has yet to state so.

Crossing Over,

Heartbreaker is one of the best albums of her 'post-porter' career..and that is saying a lot since there are many wonderful albums during (and before) this time. All songs hit the above-average or higher ratings in my opinion. Aside from the country/pop hit "Heartbreaker", "Baby, I'm Burning" topped the country, pop, and disco charts at the time. However, one of my favorite from the album is, "The Man." It's a great tribute to any father, but I especially liked the haunting/nostalgic like melody. The album cover is pure Dolly.

70s Dolly,

When Buddha records announced they were going to remaster some of Dolly's old albums back in 1999, I was hoping they would do some of her albums that are not available on CD or very hard to find. Luckily, HEARTBREAKER was one of the ones they chose to remaster and release on CD. HEARTBREAKER is when Dolly was still crossover, into pop and disco, but still maintaining its country roots. The 10 songs are what you'd expect from Dolly, touching songs about life and relationships, the simpler things in life. The album opens with the midtempo ballad "I Really Got The Feeling". It's a touching song backed with a orchestra rich in symphony. "It's Too Late To Love Me Now" is a sorrowful ballad in which Dolly injects enough emotion to support the song. "We're Through Forever ('Til Tomorrow)" is another inspiring love ballad. "Sure Thing" has attitude, and its a great quirky fun song. "With You Gone" has a catchy chorus, its irresistibly fun to sing along with. The disco anthem "Baby I'm Burnin" is also here, it's classic Dolly. "Nickles and Dimes" and "The Man" are both interesting songs with nice instruments, and vocals from Dolly. "Heartbreaker" is very sad, a sad delivery from Dolly, definately a classic. "I Wanna Fall In Love" is a fun upbeat disco song, it was the bside to "Baby I'm Burnin". Overall HEARTBREAKER isn't what the title implies, its for the most part a fun upbeat album, with some sad songs, but overall its classic Dolly.

FUNKY DOLLY!,

I'm a thirteen year old Dolly fan, and this CD has got to be the best Dolly ever! You could take "I Wanna Fall In Love" and put it into today's pop charts and it wouldn't sound old. "Sure Thing" is my fave song because it's so happy and it makes you want to dance.I like Dolly's pop AND her country albums. You can just pick a Dolly CD to suit your mood. This is the CD I'd listen to if I was feeling energetic, happy or even sad, because the songs are so good that they just cheer me up. Another song I really love is "With You Gone". I love it's upbeat music and piano instrumentals. People who don't like Dolly's pop and disco music, I advise you to steer clear. There are lots of country Dolly albums (I should know, I've got about 21, all country) so give this a miss. We pop Dolly lovers are going to enjoy this no end!

Crossover Success,

Heartbreaker was yet another venture into pop music, as well as disco, adult contemporary and country, for Dolly Parton. This album offers many sounds for the listener, and includes some of her nicest songs. The hits include Baby Im Burnin and Heartbreaker, both timeless, but the other songs are just as timeless (even today), with some classic ballads like Were Through Forever Til Tommorow, Its Too Late To Love Me Now and Ive Really Got The Feeling, while singing fun songs like With You Gone, Sure Thing, I Wanna Fall In Love. I reccomend this to fans of Dolly, although the country fans of Dolly might find this one disapointing.

Perfect Dolly album,

I was thrilled that Buddha Records finally reissued Heartbreaker. From start to finish, it is a perfect album. My only little complaint about the reissue is that they didn't do bonus tracks of the 12 inch disco mixes of Baby I'm Burnin' and I Wanna Fall In Love. Other than that, it is perfect. Now, if they would reissue New Harvest First Gathering, Great Balls of Fire and Dolly, Dolly, Dolly it would make my day.
