G-Dragon is one of the members of the kpop/hip-hop group Big Bang, and he always stands out for his attitude and his wild fashion sense. With his solo album, he proves that he also has talents as a songwriter and producer, since he wrote every song on the album and co-produced all but one of them. "A Boy" features this wistful-eerie electric piano, and G-Dragon gets to show off his falsetto singing in between raps. The song is about his many years in the music industry, starting from when he was just a kid. English speakers will definitely be wanting to sing along with the "Remember back in the day?" parts. "Heartbreaker" was a huge hit in Korea, and it just seemed to take over the culture for awhile. It's a can't-get-over-the-breakup song where the guy just doesn't understand what went wrong, but the heartbreak is delivered with a certain angry intensity. G-Dragon was accused of plagiarising part of the melody of his raps from a song by Flo Rida, but Flo Rida himself said that he didn't think they were too similar. "Heartbreaker" is easy to love, and it contains one of the rare instances where I think Autotune is being used to create an awesome vocal affect rather than to cover up shaky vocals. On the other hand, I do wish that "Breathe" had foregone the Autotune. It's a fun, quick song about the singer being crazy over a girl. The only trouble with the pronunciation of the English lines is that he's supposed to be saying, "I can't breathe", but it sounds like "I can breathe", which changes the theme somewhat. "Butterfly" is a sweet, slower song where you can actually hear an acoustic guitar (real instruments! Not just synthesizers and drum machines, yay!). It contains a ton of English, and all of it is pronounced just right--and with the exception of one line, it seems to suit the context of the song. "Hello" features Dara from 2NE1. It's kind of a how-to guide for impressing girls. G-Dragon dispenses some key advice in English: "You ain't got a girl right now (no) Well, cause you ain't got no game (I know) Imma show you how to do it real quick GD style, you should write it down There's some rules though: One, put on something nice Two, don't be nervous, Three, just be yourself" That's right, fellas. G-Dragon thinks you have no game, but he's willing to help a brother out by giving you pointers. "Gossip Man" is an okay song about being the center of a media circus. "Korean Dream" sounds like Big Bang's stuff, probably because G-Dragon's bandmate Taeyang is with him on this song. Most of the lyrics don't make sense, but it is cool to hear him refer to himself as "Captain G-Sparrow". "The Leaders" features CL from 2NE1 and Teddy, one of YG's producers. This song has a lower style of rapping and I laughed when he referenced the song "Gee" by Girls Generation, because their styles could not be more different. "She's Gone" has some interesting soulful backup vocals and a creepy sound that seems natural, because it's a very stalkery song. I am reaching the conclusion that I'm essentially a G-Dragon fangirl, and I think I've lost a good deal of my objectivity when it comes to his music. Either as 1/5th of Big Bang, as one half of GD & TOP, or as a solo act, I just plain like what he produces.

The CDs and DVDs from Korea are affordably priced and arrive in excellent condition. They usually arrive well before the expected date. My 16 yo dtr. loves this CD and I find the music fun to listen to while I am driving. That is a win-win in our family. Maybe it is a good thing that I can't translate the lyrics, but neither can anyone else in our small town.
