"Ms. Smith is one of the best contemporary family drama authors." Harriet Klausner, Reviewer

From the Author

HEARTFIRE was originally published as HEARTFIRE, HOMEFIRE by Silhouette Books under the pseudonym Kari Sutherland.  With editing, updating and revising, this romance fit perfectly into my Search For Love series.  Readers might remember Tessa as the journalist who interviews Emma in ALWAYS DEVOTED.  Linc Granger, hero from ALWAYS DEVOTED, also plays a part in Tessa's career in HEARTFIRE. HEARTFIRE is sensually sweet and has a special place in my heart because it is one of my first books.  I have gone on to write and publish over seventy more. My intention is always to keep the focus on emotion and my characters.  I use family themes in many of my books because I think they're so important to us all.  It is a joy to bring a couple, as well as a family, together in a book.  I hope readers enjoy reading about the process as much as I enjoyed writing it.
To families and the net of love they share with everyone around them.
Thanks to Judy Bullard for my beautiful new cover.

I missed two of Karen Rose Smith's "Search for Love" books, but after reading HEARTFIRE, I'll be catching up. I really liked the characters in this book, especially the hero, widowed Max, who's trying hard to be both dad and mom to his son, Ryan, who's having problems in school. Thankfully, Tessa, the journalist heroine and Max's late-wife's best friend, arrives to help--temporarily. But Tessa and Max dated in the past, and their memories make living together platonically more than a little difficult. In the process of dealing with Ryan's issues--as well as their own--Tessa and Max come to realize that love and family are theirs for the asking if they can just find a way to compromise. It's not easy. Max doesn't like Tessa's globe-trotting lifestyle, and Tessa isn't sure she wants to give it up. Five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice contemporary romance November 30, 2011

Leslie, Max's wife and Tessa's best friend, died three years ago from cancer, leaving behind a distraught husband and a five-year old son.

Tessa and Max have a history together, having briefly dated before Tessa chose her career over family-life and before Max fell in love with Leslie. When Tessa comes back to visit her god-son, she discovers that the eight-year old is having problems at school and may need help from someone other than his father. She agrees to stay for a while. Passion flares between Tessa and Max but both have issues to resolve.

The characters in this book are spot on. They react in a logical manner, don't make decisions based on lust and don't invent crazy schemes in order to solve their problems. I found it quite refreshing.

It's a well done family oriented story.

More About the Author

Biography

"Karen Rose Smith always writes romances that touch the heart. They are quick reads with characters that we the readers can relate to." Kathy Andrico, www.kathysreviewcorner.com

Karen Rose Smith's plots are all about emotion. She began writing in her early teens when she listened to music and created stories to accompany the songs. After expressing feelings in poetry, earning a degree in English and French, completing short stories that became too long to find a market, she turned to her fascination with relationships, writing romances and now mysteries. This award-winning best-selling author (USA Today List, Borders Bestseller List, Amazon Romance Bestseller lists) will see her 80th novel released in 2013. She has published with Silhouette, Harlequin, Kensington and Meteor/Kismet. Her awards include two Golden Leaf awards in short contemporary romance, the Golden Quill in traditional romance, two cataromance.com's awards for Best Special Editions and Romance Review's Today's Best series romance award. Jane Bowers of Romance Reviews Today states: "Karen Rose Smith's storyworlds are complete and realistic and lovely places to visit and revisit. She excels at stories that feature couples brought together by infants and children, and she handles her plots and characters with sublime sensitivity."

Karen is well-known for writing emotion. An only child, she spent a lot of time in her imagination and with books Nancy Drew, Zane Gray, The Black Stallion and Anne of Green Gables. She dreamed of brothers and sisters and a big family like her mother and father came from--seven children in her mom's family and ten in her dad's. On weekends she was often surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. This is the root of her plotlines that include small communities and family relationships as part of everyday living. She believes universal emotions unite us all and that is the reason she employs them to propel her plots.

It is no secret that Karen married her college sweetheart and they have been married for over thirty years. She believes in the power of commitment and the hope that goes along with the promise of everlasting love. Along with enjoying time with her husband, Karen enjoys cooking, gardening, shopping, listening to music and keeping her two cats company or vice versa.

She has been busy reformatting her backlist for sale on Kindle. In addition, she writes Harlequin Special Editions and will see the debut of a mystery series for Kensington soon. Readers can follow her on Facebook (Search--Karen Rose Smith)or on Twitter @karenrosesmith. She welcomes interaction with her readers on either social network and would love to chat about plotlines, titles, emotions, heroes, heroines, music, books, gardening, cooking, or anything else readers deem noteworthy!
