5.0 out of 5 stars Heart's Desire...a sweet, satisfying romance December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Don't let the short length fools you; this story is a very satisfying read. Callie and William have known each other since they were children. They fell in love as teenagers, but they both were too afraid to tell the other. William never acts on his love for Callie for two reasons: (1) he believes his position as a shopkeeper is too lowly for a duchess's sister, and (2) he believes there's no possible way Callie feels anything more than friendship for him.

Now adults in their twenties, Callie returns after a two-year absence. When she walks into William's store and invites him to dinner, William has no idea she's not leaving again without a kiss. This is where the story gets interesting, as we watch these two dance around each other, both frightened of admitting their true feelings. With a little help from a "deaf" aunt and a mystifying "magic mirror," a happily ever after is guaranteed.

If you love sweet friends-turned-lovers stories and happily-ever-afters, you'll love this story!

I really like the way Jacquie writes. I must have missed the fact that it was a short story and was sorely disappointed that it ended so fast!

5.0 out of 5 stars A biased opinion June 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Red Roses Mean Love is one of the first historic romances I've read and remains one of my very favorites. I urge anyone to give it a try. Callie, the heroine in this novella, was an adorable little girl in that one. It's been years since Roses was published so I was surprised and extremely happy to hear that an all grown up Callie got her own story. Heart's Desire, although short, is excellent. Callie returns to the country, before the season, to persuade the boy she grew up with that they belong together. William fights his desire because he believes he is not good enough for a duchess sister. A magical mirror, showing pictures of the future, is added to the mix. Loved it!

***If by some absolute miracle D'Alessandro reads this review, I beg you to write a novella about the secondary characters Lady Darvin and Adam Straton from The Bride Thief. I can't stand to think that the poor abused widow and the magistrate with a serious case of unrequited love don't get their HEA. Please!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, fun read November 22, 2012

Enjoyed this novella. Characters were well developed for such a short story. Liked both Callie and William, I was rooting for them, glad they had the happy ending, without a lot of drama. Aunt Olivia was a gem. Quick easy read.

Callie and William have been best friends since childhood. The one secret that they didn't share is the one that they needed to most. Can a shop keeper and a duchess share their innermost secrets? This is true old fashioned romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good short story April 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I appreciate the writers who manage to create a decent plot in such a short story as this one. It was a very fast read, but very satisfying. The characters and their dialogues are delicious, the writing style really made me smile, and the romance was nice. Altogether a good fast read.
