Open Hearts, is one of anggun soundtrack album for the movie with the same title. When i first knew that she will collaborate in such project, i except an impromptu last minute release type of quality because it is a soundtrack which is just to complete a movie.SUPRISINGLY, its not. This soundtrack is well crafted, well produced and its a well plan project waiting for someone to lend a voice on its track.which they did brilliantly choose anggun. The sound of the album is urban, fresh, pop, string instruments, and also even a raw tracks that highlight anggun voice with just a piano.I MUST admit that this album is my favourite album by anggun now.then followed others. If the outcome of this album is this great.I expect something similar or better for her 3rd album which is due to be release soon.Open Hearts OST will appeal to everyone, i reckon everyone will enjoy this one.Its not a typical urban album. This album has IT.Every single track is special and well selected.Starting from the first track till the last one.which im sure u will replay the album again and again.i promise u that. 1. Counting Down 3.45 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) 2. Open Your Heart 3.27 ( Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck, Anggun ) 3. Little Things 4.29 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) 4. Blue Satellite 3.44 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) 5. The End of a Story 4.42 ( Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck, Anggun ) 6. I'm Your Mirror 3.42 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) 7. Pray 4.16 ( Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck, Anggun ) 8. I Wanna Hurt You 4.57 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) 9. Naked Sleep 4.20 (Jesper winge leisner, Niels Brinck ) great album.an amazing production and well polish album by jesper, niels and anggun.notice how i end up every song with a high score?skeptical?believe me, thats the truth.im so satisfied with album.it worth every penny i spent on it.every track is a "single" material if u know what i mean.if you see this album at a record store.BUY..its anggun in a different perspective.

I believe I have every single song that Anggun has done. Discovering her with a Soliday album song "Qui Sait" which was truly amazing that led me to buy both english and french versions of her other two cd's, Snow On The Sahara (Au nom De La Lune) and Chrysalis (Desirs Contraires) and now we have Open Hearts.I bought this CD way back in November of last year (2002) from Amazon.fr and was eager to listen to it. After first listening to it, I didn't really think too much of it because it really didn't match her previous albums. But then, when you listen to it a little more you begin to really appreciate it more as the songs really grow on you. Of all of the songs on the CD I believe "I'm Your Mirror" is probably the best and would catch on best here in the states, but I think that's hoping for a lot since Anggun has never been promoted properly here and that is a real shame. For those that are familiar with Anggun's sound, this album takes a turn to a more pop-oriented style which to me means that it is not as beautiful but more simplified without orchestra accompaniments. She still amazes me because I just love her voice and style which she brings forth in this more up-beat CD along with a mix of chant-rap which today's popular music has a lot of. If you love Anggun is it definitely worth the buy.

Open Hearts set to open US Hearts, Minds....,

Anggun's return to the US market (domestically) for the first time since the release of 1998's 'Snow On The Sahara' is a 9 track album soundtrack for the Danish Movie, 'Elsker Dig for Evigt' by Susanne Bier (releasing in the US on 2/26 as 'Open Hearts'). Hopefully her OVERDUE return won't be hampered by Tommy Mottola's dismissal.See also my review of Chrysalis (which was not released in the US domestically). The first single released in Europe was Open Your Heart (Track 2), a mid-tempo ballad. A song about that special someone who opens your heart to the love you have so valantly hidden from. Counting Down is the first track on the CD. Lyrically, it's complete. 'it's funny when you think about it, it's funny when you think about your life.' The song is about life and it's apparent twists which change at any time. 'Little Things', the third track, about life surprises and changes, danceable, ready for radio play, how the 'little things cut like knives, hurt and sting.' 'Blue Satellite' is the fourth track, mid-tempo, set for AC play, 'here we are like one' and 'lost in gravity, never really meant to be, blue restless satellite', a fun song. Throw the top down, turn it up. One of my three favourite songs on the cd, 'The End of a Story' is a song about being in love, the person is leaving, and she says, 'if you have to leave me, take me with you' 'what's about to be begin, it's the end of a story, don't go'. The song is powerful and well-orchestrated. My second favourite song is 'I'm Your Mirror'. 'Everybody shines, everybody glows but what your finding is what already shows'. Hip-hop, mid-tempo, just what your radio needs. 'Look out people', here comes Anggun and 'I leave it up to you'. 'Imagine all the love I could throw back at you!' 'Pray', the seventh track, is sort of dark, 'pray for life, pray for living'. The song talks of being behind a wall, presumably the wall we all hide behind at times in our lives. 'Pray for love, pray for tomorrow'. Escape is immenent. Track 8, 'I Wanna Hurt You', is a dance track, ready for the club. A bitter song full of hate, the title says it all. 'You promised to be here for me, You promised to care of me, Now you're gone, I wanna hurt you for what you've done' The last track, a piano laced ballad shows Anggun's soft side, 'Naked Sleep'. Beautifully written and orchestrated, soft tender vocals really show the heart of Anggun. Hearing this song, and knowing the movie is a love story, it so easy to see why Anggun's music is used for this movie. 'tonight, there's only love, nothing else should be said'

Soundtrack album featuring Anggun....WOW !!!!,

Anggun's powerful vocals carries the album beautifully and succeeds in breaking what otherwise might have been a melancholic, dull soundtrack. From the soaring Open your Heart to the soothing Naked Sleep, and a couple of lighter, pop-ish tunes like Little Things and Blue Satellite, and even a dance track - I Wanna Hurt You, she doesn't falter !!!

For those of us who've awaited a sequel to Chrysalis (2 years+) this soundtrack to a movie that I have no desire to see will have to be an Anggun-fix until the next album comes out. It is a little more pop oriented than her brilliant predecessors (Snow on the Sahara, Un Nom de la Lune, Chrysalis) but there are a few little elements of world-beat that pop up now and again--Sundanese call and response, other Indonesian folk forms. Not enough, however. Unlike the last reviewer, I don't think the former head of her label did her justice (his job only netted him trophy wives and he put out a French language version of Chrysalis here in N.America while I found an English version in Indonesia!--go figure!). Maybe she will find a new label that will know how to work her right. But after all, it is Anggun-- who stands head and shoulders over most of the [tripe] that permeates the industry --and for that reason the recording is worth a listen. Pray that she's working on more material that sounds more like her original vision and less like she's pandering to the music industry. |
