5.0 out of 5 stars Fun poppy tunes, December 23, 2001
By
This review is from: Pink Hearts and Yellow Moons (Audio CD)
I listen to pretty much everything on the Kindercore record label (yes that makes me a Kindercore whore, thank you very much), but my favorite has always been the Denver darlings Dressy Bessy. Pink Hearts Yellow Moons is one of my most listened to CDs I have whirling around in my car stereo. Twisting and turning down steep mountain roads is so much more fun when you are tra-la-laing with Tammy Ealom, as she sings in her sweet and catchy way to "Jenny Come On."

If you like bands like Quasi, Apples in Stereo or Olivia Tremor Control, you'll dig this band. Heck if you like the Archies or Josie and the Pussycats you'd jump for joy listening to this CD.

If you say, "It sounds like that other great band Apples In Stereo has influenced the sound of Dressy Bessy a tad." You wouldn't be far off. Aside from Tammy, bassist Rob Greene and drummer Darren Albert, Tammy's boyfriend John Hill, who just so happens to also be in Apples in Stereo, is the guitarist for Dressy.

Get this CD and you'll be dancing the jig of joy in no time.

5.0 out of 5 stars pink hearts, yellow moons, instant fun, May 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pink Hearts and Yellow Moons (Audio CD)
In a time where so-called indiepop fans are often too busy taking themselves too seriously and losing grasp on the music that endeared them, Denver's Dressy Bessy draws upon past eras of indelible pop goodness to remind one how much fun pop music has been and can continue to be. Dressy Bessy combine the seasoned simplicity of the fifties teenybopper sound with youthfully charged bubblegum pop of the late sixties, resulting in a barrage of hook-laden melodies and catchy lyrics. Add a dash of seventies power pop with its guilty pleasures and the formula for Pink Hearts and Yellow Moons is fully realized. It won't be long before you find yourself singing along with the candy-coated vocals of lead singer Tammy Ealom, who also shares guitar duties with John Hill (of Apples in Stereo). The fuzzy pop melodies are further enticed by the bass strumming of Rob Greene and the upswing drumming of Darren Albert. I've seen the band on so many occasions and I enjoy myself everytime. The band is simply that much fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars release your inner teeny bopper, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pink Hearts and Yellow Moons (Audio CD)
I love Dressy Bessy. On a whim, I bought their single "I'm Never Wrong" this winter, and got this disc as soon as I could. The first 5 songs are a relentless attack on your cynicism and resistance to having girly fun. After that, the rock combines with the pop and your inner adult can commune with your inner teeny bopper, and the pure fun that good pop like this provides explodes. I recommend this record before the summer gets going, because you're going to want to crank "Lookaround" and "Jenny Come On" while you drive to the beach.
