Wonderful Surprise,
By Lonny Richardson (Southern Utah) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heat Beneath the Sand (Audio CD)
Blue Haiku's debut album has been a wonderful surprise. This quartet takes us to new musical territory that feels like home: new, bright, vibrant forays into places music has never been, yet the group is equipped with traditionally classical instruments: oboe, upright bass, guitar and violin. But they come at you in a very unclassical, muscular, folk rock way. Immediately apparent is the groups unquestionable musicianship and unprecedented approach, less so is the subtle and evocatively nuanced lyrics that revolve around a universe of passion and the happy (and not so happy) troubles it brings. Each song is a gem--a musical haiku.

Exceptional CD,

Blue Haiku's music is different. It doesn't fit into a category. It is a category unto it's own.
The music pulls you right into it, like a widing river - there's a surprise around the bend. My favorite song is Rainy Season. It's takes me right to Sitka Alaska, where it rains over 100 inches a year. My recommendation - try this music . . .and your soul will be touched! |
