I first read this book when I was 13 and fell in love with both the book and the subject of heat engines. Don't glaze over ... if you like to learn about engines and how they really work, and to really understand the physics without getting into the math, then you will love this book. Not fancy, not glittering with full color diagrams, not thick with technical charts, this book nevertheless explains clearly how heat engines work with a fairly easy-to-read style. The book gives you the solid foundation you will need to study related topics, such as steam power plants, gasoline or diesel engines, turbine engines, even refrigeration equipment.

Perhaps you are interested in the theory of origins, evolution vs. creation, the nature of the universe -- you'll learn the concepts that are frequently discussed in those subjects, too. Knowing something about thermondynamics gives you a special understanding of our universe -- and this is the book to get that knowledge.
