I bought the Mossy hand muff. The photo can be a bit misleading in that it isn't as 'thick' as one might expect. I know the photo is showing it with hands inside, but it does seem to be a thick hand muff. It isn't. It is very thin. It has a thin fleece lining.
Other information not clear is just what maximum waist size will this item fit. You'd think that a product going around the human waist would list the waist size it can accommodate. Anyway, if your waist is above 40" this will not work for you without extending the strap by stitching extra length to it. The USA CDC claims the average male waist is 39.7" which makes this item marginally useful for average or below average USA males. Considering the size of male hunters/sportsmen, the likelihood that the muff would be worn on the outside of a coat or jacket, I gave a 3-star rating for the manufacturer not making the item: thicker and able to accommodate a significantly larger waist size.
It comes with two Heat factory disposable Large Warmer packs. The pack labeling is tricky at best. There is no written claim on how long the heat pack will last, however on the pack is printed, "24 HOURS/HEURES." One would think then that the manufacturer of the pack is claiming it will last 24 hours. Like I wrote, there is no written claim as to how long it will last or under what conditions the heat will continue. The pack is air-activated (it says). Maybe starving it for air will lengthen its heat generating time? Anyway, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get warm (over 125F), and one pack lasted (for me) 3 hours.
During the 3 hours, hands were kept warm inside the muff.Read more ›
When I was a boy, you'd see girls wear mufflers to church on Sundays. They were furry little purse-like things to warm their hands, usually made of an animal hide. I'm from the depression era, so we never wasted a thing. Some of the little girls at our church had mufflers made of mink or rabbit, but my sister had the prettiest marmalade colored muffler in town and that's because Dad skinned one of our cats to make hers. I'll never forget it because Mittens was my favorite cat and I know he was sick and all, but a part of me died that day when dad took the axe to him. In church the next week I saw a whisker fall to the ground from the muffler, and it was all I could do to keep my composure and not cry like a little sissy boy. Dad said his precious girl would always have the best, and we knew that was true because the year before he'd made her the most beautiful slippers from our cow, Mr. Beef. That was one sad Christmas. No milk with our dinner at all.
Anyway I was thinkin about those mufflers recently when I was dropping off clothes at the Salvation Army. Unfortunately the people who ran the place wouldn't let me in. Apparently there was a misunderstanding regarding my hands. You see my hands were so damn cold that they locked into place witha crippling arthritis but the kids running the store were terrified because they thought I was making gang signs at them. I don't understand what the problem is with these young idiots today.Read more ›

perfect size, nice zippered sleeve for small items or warmer packets, good strap, not too bulky or heavyPublished 1 month ago by honestreview
Big and solid. Only suggestion would be to make the holes elastic so that they shrink when not in use. Would help with warmth inside and keep stuff out of itPublished 1 month ago by Matthew A Livelsberger
