I tried 2 or 3 different warmers and finally gave up.
G-Men #1
I even put the hot hands that were meant for your hands in my shoes, and those lasted well after I ran and went home.
LINALEEFIELDS
They are not extremely hot, but provide enough warmth to keep hands warm.

I use these 20-hour Heat Factory warmers whenever I am out in the winter outdoors for an extended period of time, like hunting, ice fishing, or skiing. I like the larger size, as it puts out more heat. I place one in each of my gloves, in each boot, and sometimes one on my neck under my head warmer. I know they have saved my fingers and toes from frostbite. These are great whenever you are outdoors in cold temperatures and inactive, like still-hunting, winter-outdoor jobs, attending an outdoor sporting event, etc. I keep several sets of these inside my car for winter emergencies.

Upon opening the package (exposure to air), the pack slowly begins to warm. By 15 minutes, the pack is warm and will continue to generate heat for well over 18-20 hours. They do not stain hands or clothing. These are lifesavers.

I bought this larger version of Heat Factory warmers at the same time as the smaller size (exactly half) and the Grabber brand (small size). These perform better than the smaller sizes. Its not surprising that it lasts much longer than the smaller ones, but it wasn't expected that it would reach higher temperatures too. If I compare the small-size versions between Heat Factory and Grabber, the Grabber outputs higher heat but lasts just a tad bit less. The large version Heat Factory is better on both aspects. I haven't used it for 20 hours continuously but I have used it overnight in my sleep and its still at the same temperature in the morning. The small versions already start to become cold to lukewarm by then. One thing I noticed with all three versions is that once it loses its heat you can squeeze a bit more heat out of them by crumpling and shaking the stuff inside again. As they give off heat the insides become hardened or stuck together, so just reversed that process with your hands. Its only good for a little bit longer. If you dont mind the size, I would go for these large ones. But I dont think they fit nicely inside your gloves or boots without a big bulge. Hope this helps!

One thing that is very important to note up front:
If you want something you can hold in your hands on a cold day and warm them up, these ARE NOT what you are looking for. Even once they've reached full heating power, these will barely be above ambient temperature if you have them out in the open air (ie: holding them in your hand).

Again, if you buy these thinking you'll be able to pop them open and hold them in your hands to fight off the cold, you will be very disappointed.

Where these things shine is as that little extra boost you need to keep your already-bundled-up-bits toasty on a bitterly cold day, or keep your feet warm in the bottom of your sleeping bag. Stash them in a chest pocket of your base layer and then bundle up on top of it, and you'll feel a nice little furnace in your core all day long. In enclosed spaces (bottom of your sleeping bag, in a pocket, under your coat) these things get pleasantly warm, and their size means they can really add to the overall heat of your body.

The last thing to mention - and where these things earn their stars - is that they really do last all day long, and I've had a few still going well past 24 hours. You throw one of these under your jacket in the morning, hike all day, and then take it into the sleeping bag with you that night... it'll still be chugging when you wake up the next day. They're that good.

I admit that I've only used one of these, BUT: it took 12 minutes to warm up, never got more than barely warm to the touch, and only lasted about an hour. From reading other reviews it appears that these are hit or miss and that some work very well. However, how many do you have to bring with you to be certain of a good one?

These hand and body warmers are fantastic! I've use them while fishing in cold weather and snow and really appreciated having them! Just knead the pack and you've got reliale heat for your hands (or cold areas) for hours! They also make smaller ones for just hands (I however recommend these larger ones) and for your toes! Put some in your Tacle Box, Backpack and Car! Unopened and protected from high heat, they'll last for years.

I purchased these before going on a camping trip to the Grand Canyon (in January). In preparation for the cold temperature I thought that some large hand warmers would be a nice addition to our cold weather gear. Once we got to the river and set up camp we decided to try these out. Absolutely nothing happened. They didn't do anything. I tried 2 or 3 different warmers and finally gave up. I know its only 11 bucks and we planned for the cold so it wasn't a serious issue, but it was disappointing and I paid $11 for trash and then humped that trash in my pack for 20 miles. Find another brand.

So here we are, in the middle of the "Polar Vortex" that is bringing the coldest weather in two decades to the northeast and I broke out my heater packs. And... no heat. It's just barely warm. And I mean just barely. I haven't even taken it outside, where the temperature is 5 degrees. It's inside my home where it's 68 and I can barely feel this thing give off any warmth at all. What a serious disappointment.

It's too bad I bought this over a year ago so I can't return it. Maybe this would have worked when it was new but the package says 3 year shelf life.
