Absolutely incredible album,

This is simply the greatest album of 2009, period. Deceptively simple tunes somewhere between folk, roots, country; masterful musicians; Betty Soo's soft, expressive voice; beautiful lyrics - it grabs you and won't let you go. Listen to it over and over again and the emotions get deeper and more compelling. This lady is good beyond belief.

I heard of this artist purely by accident & was encouraged to listen to a few samples of her talent. It took no more than two samples to compel me to buy the whole album - & I have no regrets. Such a beautiful voice, such pertinent & clear lyrics, such emotion - all accompanied by terrific music/musicians that at no time tries to 'take over the stage', but gently blends with flow.
She might only be a wee package, but I reckon she'd be one of the few artists able to sneak into a shipyard 'drinking hole' or a bikers bar, set up in the corner, start singing and the crowd would be quiet before the first song was finished. I'd love to see/hear her live, but since that is unlikely Down Under, I've burnt the cd to my pc, safely stored the original & burn a new cd each time I wear out the copy in my car stereo. Buy it. It's beautiful.

The Gurf Morlix production works well on this album. There's good variation in the feeling of the songs that could have been turned into "just another folk album" in someone else's hands. Betty has a clear voice and uses it well.
This album is mostly a collection of love songs; some happier than others. The most notable exception being "Who Knows" which is about a family fleeing a hurricane. I'd heard of Bettysoo from some music blogs, and finally caught her show, last week. She played a small club, in Buffalo, NY, during "Happy Hour". She managed to get this crowd to pay attention. If she comes to your town, see her; you won't be disappointed.
