I got the Heat Surge today. I like the fact that this heater has a vent that blows out hot air rather than one that radiates it. The vent blows similar to the amount that a heating register would in your wall. You will not feel it if you aren't close to the unit. However, If you are standing in front of the unit it is very hot. The vent that the heat comes out of gets very hot to the touch. If a child were to walk up and touch it they could be burned. Much like any space heater make sure children and pets are watched around it. Another thing I found was that the unit is very front heavy. If it is sitting on a medium shag carpet it could tip over very easily. It is stated in the manual that if the unit tips over it will shut off automatically. A small child or pet could easily knock it over though.
I did find that over the hours I ran it, the temperature of the room was nice. It is also very quiet. I would say for the money you really are paying for a nicer look than a typical space heater and will probably work just as good. I also like that it has a remote control and it can be easily moved from room to room. UPDATE: This winter my furnace's blower motor went bad. I was without heat for 4 days. I am so happy I had the Heat Surge. I don't know what I would have done in the dead of winter without it.

The Heat Surge was just what I needed. I ordered the Heat Surge directly from Heat Surge and after ordering THEN I read reviews. There were so many wonderful reviews and a few negative reviews but by reading just a few negative reviews it left me feeling like I made a wrong choice(left me feeling buyers remorse). I focused on the few negative as opposed to the many wonderful reviews. I received my Heat Surge plugged it in and was SO PLEASED with the entire unit. BEAUTIFUL. I have a large home and know that the unit wasn't intended to heat the entire home so wasn't sure how much it would really heat. I kept it set on low. In the first hour and a half it raised the thermostat by 3 degrees, after 2 and a half hours by 5 degrees still set on low. The temp kept creeping up. I only left it on for an entire 5 hours then shut the heat off and left only the flames running(which makes for beautiful ambiance). My home was comfortable(to me). I have a very well insulated home so maybe that helped with some of it. Regardless the unit worked wonderfully, quietly and is truly beautiful! My Aunt has one, my parents are getting one and they are sticklers(very picky)people on most everything. They actually liked it too. Glad I got it and am sorry I worried myself sick on it and second guessed my ordering one. So many people aren't reading that it isn't meant to heat the entire home and complain about the size??? The measurments are all listed. The unit is not small. It is the size of a regular gas insert based off the one I have in my home and other inserts I have seen & I believe the heat surge is FAR more eye appealing. By no means did I get it to heat my entire home but it is doing a really good job of it. I received more than I expected it to be. I am VERY pleased with this unit and everyone who has seen it has been pleasantly surprised of it's looks and the warmth it was producing. I have'nt used my central heating since receiving the heat surge at the beginging of Oct. Don't know if this is typical but it's what I've experienced. I LOVE IT!

If this is Amish Quality (as is heavily marketed by the company), then they must have a village in China.
I bought a black Fireplace which was chipped and marked in the corners with something that looked like Elmers glue. The vision of the Amish working in their barns with oil lamps and manual tools is (I believe) just a devious marketing ploy. I could be wrong, but don't think so. The quality would not be acceptable to companies like Wal-Mart and K-Mart and this is probably why it's sold on line. If I had seen it on a showroom floor, I would have walked right past it. What we have is a wooden box with a Chinese made insert. Don't expect to warm anything but a small room.....you have 5 rooms? Buy five Amish/Chinese heat surgers....and some ear-plugs. The noise level is excessive unless you turn on the TV - then it's fine. I have never given any product such a poor rating!
