5.0 out of 5 stars This product is AWESOME
I purchased this product after I converted a loft into a spare room and didn't want to have to pay $200+ to have an electrician come in to install a switched wall outlet. The product works like a charm... Just mount it on the wall, install the battery, plug in the supplied outlet to the wall and then plug in the lamp to the outlet. Pretty simple. The only thing I have...

2.0 out of 5 stars Works OK... unless a neighbor gets one
Does what it's designed to do. Maybe too well. The switch range is perhaps better than 100 feet, as someone nearby apparently bought one on the same channel.

$20 wireless doorbell kits have dip switches/jumpers to 'key' your button and bell so it isn't remotely triggered by accident, but for some reason Heath Zenith thought four channels would be enough...

Does what it's designed to do. Maybe too well. The switch range is perhaps better than 100 feet, as someone nearby apparently bought one on the same channel.

$20 wireless doorbell kits have dip switches/jumpers to 'key' your button and bell so it isn't remotely triggered by accident, but for some reason Heath Zenith thought four channels would be enough for lights for EVERYONE. So if a neighbor buys 2, that's 50/50 there'll be a conflict. If you both have two, 75% chance of conflict. If either of you have 3 or more, almost certain conflict.

So if you set it up and the light turns on and off for no reason, there's your culprit, or more likely the fact that anything that makes a noise on the same radio frequency will trigger the light switch, which can leave you stumbling in the dark, or wondering why your light is on in the middle of the day, or at 2:00am.

I responded in the only mature way I knew how. Just unplugged the lamp receiver, then played with the switch intermittently for a few hours, then plugged my lamp back in... and had no problems for a couple of months until they apparently tried using it again. At which time I repeated the performance.

If you have any neighbors, my recommendation is shop a little more and find one that has a 'unique' digital code, like the wireless doorbells or garage door openers have. It will ultimately be less annoying.

The product works like a charm... Just mount it on the wall, install the battery, plug in the supplied outlet to the wall and then plug in the lamp to the outlet. Pretty simple. The only thing I have found to be an annoyance is that if you switch the outlet on then off too quickly, the outlet doesn't receive the signal and will stay on. Turning it back on then off again at a slower speed usually fixes that. There is not many times you will have that problem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works well....kinda, August 9, 2008
This review is from: Heath/Zenith BL-6136-WH Wireless Switch Outlet, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
we purchased 2 of these thinking....like the write up says, that we could use 2 with one switch...I am sure you can, but amazon can not get specific channels. if you want to use more than one with one switch, better not buy these...you can't be sure you'll get what you need. The one switch we have does work and works well, but it is not working at the potential it could or for how we wanted.

I bought this to use with a cabinet containing built in halogen lights. Seemed to work at first but then the lights started to turn on and off at Random. I called tech support and they told me only florescent and standard bulbs are supported. I will need to find another use for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great solution for additional light switch, January 8, 2009

I like this product a lot. I can place the switch anywhere and have light (like in my closet finally!). Installation is somewhat simple. Plug the appliance into the outlet, place the switch wherever you want and start using it. The outlet is a bit bulky, and installing the switch requires you to screw it onto the wall, so there is no adhesive material. The battery is not included, so you have to buy a 9V PP3 battery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Higher Price Tag Doesn't Mean a Better Product, June 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Heath/Zenith BL-6136-WH Wireless Switch Outlet, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I own 2 similar switches and I needed to replace one of them because it broke. They no longer sell them at my local Target so I bought this one. I chose it because of the higher price tag. I figured this one would be more durable, otherwise why would this one cost almost double what the others cost. I was wrong.

The plastic is very flimsy. The ones I bought at target for half the price are built better. The biggest problem is that the switch rarely worked. I had to switch it on and off quickly and continuously to get my lamp to turn on just once; and I did the same to turn the lamp off. Not worth the money.

Nothing against the company selling these switches. They were very quick to get me an RMA number and provided me with a refund.

3.0 out of 5 stars What a great concept!, March 16, 2009

This really is a neat concept, a wireless light switch! I bought this to use in a room that had no lights. We had a huge room and put a bathroom in and didn't want to mess with vanity lights, etc so we were going to use a floor lamp. This switch was a great solution. The only problem is you can't flick the switch quickly. If you do the flick doesn't register and the light doesn't turn on. You have to turn it on/off slowly which isn't a problem, it just takes some getting used to. I would have liked to have seen them spend a few more $$$ on research and development and made this solid. They could have improved this with a higher quality mercury switch on the "guts" of the switch but they didn't and that is why I am taking 2 stars away from it. But if you can get used to turning it on/off slowly then it will work perfectly for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars channels, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Heath/Zenith BL-6136-WH Wireless Switch Outlet, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I ordered 3 of these with the idea of one set of lights with 3 switches. Upon receiving them I noticed they had stickers on them "ch D" on two and "ch E" on the other. Apparently they come preconfigured and there isn't a way to change it so I kept two of them and returned the other as Amazon mentioned that they cannot control which ones I get. A great idea but maybe not so good a fit for Amazon - well unless you only need one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Barely works with CFLs, May 20, 2011

If you're planning on using this for compact flourescent, forget it. It barely works. I haven't tried it with incandescent but come on, who uses those anymore anyways. Light switch is totally unresponsive if you flip it quickly, only sometimes responsive if you switch it slowly, and most of the time responsive if you switch it in ultra slow motion. I'm not an engineer but I don't understand how it could have been so difficult to get the switching right. Totally unreliable and a waste of time and money.

I have also tried the Leviton switch that is very similar to this one. It works much better but the rocker switch is very stiff and doesn't operate like a normal rocker switch. It's more like a pressure button switch. Again, more issues with the switches. Very strange that nobody has gotten this seemingly simple feature correct but at least Leviton is much closer to the answer than Zenith.
