3.0 out of 5 stars Works okay.
I wanted something to light up the alleyway between my house and my neighbors', and really didn't want to pay an electrician to run wires to the back two corners of my home. So I bought two of these as it was a cheaper alternative.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works okay., November 1, 2009

I wanted something to light up the alleyway between my house and my neighbors', and really didn't want to pay an electrician to run wires to the back two corners of my home. So I bought two of these as it was a cheaper alternative.

The first thing I noticed upon taking the light out of the box was the disappointingly cheap grade of plastic it's constructed with. It really does feel rinky-dinky, and I'm concerned with how long this thing is going to last, being exposed to the elements.

The light works fine, however, as does the motion detector. I have the sensitivity set midway, and the light comes on as soon as I step in between mine and my neighbor's home. That's all I wanted really. This light is about the same brightness as an LED flashlight. It will NOT light up the same brightness as a light that is hardwired into the home, but it will definitely get someone's attention if they're trying to sneak around the back of my house.

For what I'm using it for, it's fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't do it!, December 23, 2009

I have always been a fan of H/Z lights. I have two other that work great. I just needed this one to light up the area around my outside trash cans. I even let the thing charge for a week before I turned it on. It worked good for about 2-3 weeks. Now, the light barely comes on. Maybe it will get better in the summer when the days are longer. Who knows? Right now, its just an ornament on the side of my house.

4.0 out of 5 stars As long as you charge it it works great, September 19, 2010
This review is from: Heath Zenith SL-7210-WH 180-Degree Solar Powered Motion Security Light with LED Bulb, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had mine (2) for @ least 2 years and it works great. As long as you fiqure out where the sun will be @ 12N and point it at that angle it gets enough sun all day to work all night if need be.
I live in Hawaii, and with the VOG (Volcanic Smog) it can be not the sunniest of days but it still charges. Once you keep track of the sun through the year it'll be maybe 4-5 times you have to angle it a little. The batteries started not holding 100% of the charge around year 2, so that's not bad.
The light floods the area like a prison yard, no hiding if you get caught in it's motion detection. It has deterred 6+ people who came on our property. Motion sensor works great does not come on for every leaf falling, actually catches animals and people when needed. Scares the mongoose and wild pigs real bad.

Better than I expected. Bought it for my sister's house and mounted it on the eve of the carport. Worked perfectly the first night with minimal solar charging. Lights up a huge area. I am buying one for me.

Mine worked for the first few days I had it. Now, the first time it's activated at night it won't shut off and just stays on all night till the battery wears down. POS.

This review is from: Heath Zenith SL-7210-WH 180-Degree Solar Powered Motion Security Light with LED Bulb, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
It works ... puts out more light than I expected and it was easy to install. Looks nice on the side of the house. Over time the light dims, especially by morning.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very lighted, not very consistent, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Heath Zenith SL-7210-WH 180-Degree Solar Powered Motion Security Light with LED Bulb, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
We bought this to light up a new wheelchair ramp we had just built. Perhaps it was the sunlight on the detector, but we found this light quite inconsistent. Sometimes it would come on, but only last a few seconds. The company said it might be thinking its own light was daylight. I also didn't find the light that bright, and the 180 degrees on the motion sensor quite restrictive.

I know how to do some electrical work, so we eventually returned this (it costed $129 at Lowes), and bought a wired, 240 degree light instead (same vendor). After 4 hours of wiring, I got it up. Much more consistent, much brighter, and coveres a greater area. Therefore, unless you live in a sunny state, all year round, would not recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good..., March 11, 2010

I just received this from Amazon last night. The batteries came partially charged and when I pulled the paper strip, the light turned on immediately. I then took out the 3 AA batteries and charged directly from AC.

I then took it outside and tested the range of the motion sensor, pretty good when in the mid-range setting. Roughly 35 ft. It looks like it can dimly light up 30'x60' area from my initial evaluation.

My package is missing screws, so I'll have to wait until the weekend to set up for further evaluation.

I plan to install this at my mom's house so I'm trying to be as familiar with the product before I get there.

Two additional considerations...
I think the batteries it comes with are 700mah, I may switch to at least 2400mah, but I'll still do a first charge from AC before installing. This is just what I do with all of my solar light products.

Second, I may purchase 1-2 more for her house to make sure there's light in the alley where the garage is as well as the backyard.

She lives in CA, I live in Western PA. If my tests are successful here, we should be good to go for there. Just glad it's not the other way around. ;)
