Product Description

Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Capsules for IBS are an enteric-coated blend of peppermint, fennel, and ginger oils that soothe and relax the digestive tract. Peppermint, as part of the diet, helps relieve abdominal pain, diarrhea, and urgency from IBS. Menthol and methyl salicylate, the main active ingredients of peppermint, have calming effects on the stomach and intestinal tract. Although peppermint is such a powerful smooth muscle relaxant that it can trigger GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) or heartburn in people who are susceptible, because Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Caps are enteric coated they do not dissolve in the stomach. Instead, they pass through the digestive tract intact until they reach the intestines. For this reason, Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Caps are often very helpful for people with both reflux and IBS who cannot tolerate peppermint in other forms (such as teas or foods). Fennel, as part of the diet, helps regulate contractions of the small intestine and aids gas expulsion. Fennel also relaxes the gut, which can relieve spasms of the GI tract. As a result, fennel assists in the dietary management of IBS gas, bloating, and abdominal pain. Fennel is exceptionally beneficial for bloating and gas. Ginger contains powerful digestive enzymes, and is helpful for a wide variety of gastrointestinal ailments. Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Capsules are considered a medical food for the dietary management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms, and they are specially formulated to address global IBS symptoms through the synergistic effects of peppermint, fennel, and ginger oils. This product is a medical food for the dietary management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms and is intended to be used under a physician's supervision. Heather's Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Caps contain no FODMAPS, sugar, salt, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, milk or preservatives.

Now for me, I do not need to take the pills every day, I take one every two or three days.

I bought these thinking what do I have to lose? Doing nothing wasn't helping, so I figured why not? Well, I am glad I did. They are a bit spendy, but worth every penny, if not more. I personally take them right before I eat, that seems to help me better. They calm your tummy down really well. And for those unforseen attacks, they work wonders, nipping it in the bud. I also take the Tummy Fiber which is another miracle supplement, and recommend buying her books as well. I went from having an attack nearly every day, to having just 1 or 2 a month. (I haven't got up to the recommended amount of fiber yet, so the attacks should become less when I do.) One more thing to note, Heather knows IBS personally, and is extremely supportive. Give them a try, you won't be sorry!

I've tried other forms of peppermint (tea and altoids) to calm my aggravated IBS. The peppermint tea didn't work and the altoids burned a hole in my stomach. Heather's product works great and doesn't irritate the stomach. I would recommend it to anyone suffering from IBS. It works better than many over-the counter or presciption cures.

This product has reduced my IBS symptoms to a certain extent, but has not eliminated all my discomfort. However I can say that it is probably one of the best peppermint oil products available.

Hello E.R. - thank you very much for your feedback. If you are still having some discomfort, you can increase your dose so you are taking three capsules per day, one before each meal.

You may also want to look at adding in extra soluble fiber from the Heather's Tummy Fiber (particularly for diarrhea or constipation) or, if bloating is an issue, the Fennel Tummy Tea. The peppermint oil caps are quite specific to preventing IBS pain, spasms, and cramps, so if you have other symptoms in addition to that you may need to add some other treatments. That's okay, it's common for IBS to require multiple strategies to manage.

Best,
Heather

I find this a more effective medicine for bloating than any of the prescription medicines. They also seems to work better than other peppermint capsules I've tried - either because the double enteric coating helps it dissolve where they should or due to the addition of ginger and fennel oils.

Update: I've been using them now for about over four months and am still getting good results. It is certainly a low-cost treatment for me.

I was disturbed to recently read that peppermint has significant anti-androgenic effects, and may cause a significant decline in free testosterone in people who drink 4 cups of peppermint tea a day. Since peppermint oil capsules contain much more active ingredient than tea, I guess this is a real concern, at least for men. I guess there is no free pharmaceutical lunch. So people should be aware of this potential side effect.

It's a worry, but I don't think I've noticed any effect in this direction. I'm continuing to use them as there really isn't much else that has worked this well for me with almost no side effects.

Update 2 - I've been using these for quite a while now, still with good results. The main drawback is you have to use a capsule before you eat. Since I don't always know when I'm going to get severe bloating after a meal, this is a drawback. Recently I tried using the prescription medications my gastro gave me - I have 4 different ones, similar to Bentyl. They can be taken after a meal. One is an under-the-tongue pill that works in about 5 minutes. They work VERY well for the bloating but the side-effects are severe - dizziness, tiredness, mental stuff ( the drugs are all found in Jimson weed!). I get no side effects with the peppermint, so I'm going to stick with it.

The only bad side effect - and it's not really even bad - is you might burp peppermint. Other than that it's good. Really soothing and cooling on gut. Take it when you sense a spastic attack coming. Calms it right down. Drink some of the peppermint teat before and it's even better.

I love these. I will probably buy hundreds more. I took one about 30 min before eating and decided to give it the ultimate test and went against my arch enemy pizza. I was shocked...no aches and pain or diarrhea. Granted I still won't eat much pizza but it will defaintly help with meals I'm scared of. Also made eating breakfast easier. I usually wake up wait about an hour and eat some mini wheat cereal with almond milk and just having food bloats me but this right when waking up solved the problem. Love these little things.. also capsules are about the size shape and color of a vitamin e pill.
