5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favs
The story of Jakob (an Outsider) and Lydia (the Believer) is a story of young love that starts with an intense attraction between to opposites who are forbidden to be together. They battle bigotry, jealousy and ignorance but still forge a solid relationship that's told by an excellent writer. Definitely one of my favorite books to keep in my library.

But it's a very early Cheryl St. John, and HEAVEN CAN WAIT lacks her later novels' deft touch and lighter handling of plot and character. But it's a very early Cheryl St. John, and HEAVEN CAN WAIT lacks her later novels' deft touch and lighter handling of plot and character. The cover art is lovely, but what's inside the cover drags and hits melodramatic high notes by the end (the obsessive pyromaniac sister-in-law; the heroine's running away from the hero, without hearing his side of the story...) It's a little heavy on typical standard 'Harlequin' plot turns, which Ms. St. John was later able to avoid in her stories. I don't recommend it. It's not a totally bad book, but it's just not very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars OLD-FASHIONED ROMANCE AT ITS BEST, October 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heaven Can Wait (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Interesting, well-developed characters combine with a stirring plot to create a sweet, memorable romance. Jakob and Lydia find an enduring love despite their different backgrounds, strengthened by their faith in God and family.

I enjoyed this book, and so will you.
