5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Work, July 17, 2001
This review is from: Heaven & Earth: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Kitaro is not well known for soundtracks, but rather for "new age" work.

This soundtrack is however one of the best of 1993. it has won a golden globe award (meaning it beat William's Schindler's List by).

However it is a very rare CD. So if you see it, GET IT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of the Horror, July 29, 2003

This review is from: Heaven & Earth: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I was introduced to Kitaro thru this mastery of music composition. I spent many years in Vietnam after the ceasing of conflicts there. I am aware of the cultural significance that is portrayed in Kitaro's music and find that his music brings forth beauty from the depths of the horrors of war. The fact that this is also the soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring Tommy Lee Jones dose not take away from it's ability to stand on it own. The music is a representation of the culture and provides an insight into the lives of the Vietnamese people. The people of Vietnam have survived and this music is a tribute to them. I do not have the right words to say to you who read this review just how much this music means to me. But if you wish to explore the Vietnam Conflict and the effects it had on the people thru the eyes of Kitaro then this music will show you terror, fear, hopelessness and love, Yes love, the love of a Vietnamese girl to an American soldier and the complicated life that followed. If you like the music I suggest renting or buying the video for a deeper insight to the Kitaro's world of Heaven & Earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars HEART FELT, HEART BROKEN, and HEART WARMING SCORE, February 5, 2006

This review is from: Heaven & Earth: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
THis is one of the most emotional scores I've ever listened to. It's definetely up there with John Williams'Schindler's List and Hans Zimmer's Beyond Rangoon.

Kitaro definitely did his homework when doing the score. The implementation of Vietname Songs and music instruments is brilliant. There are strong compelling theme songs in here--especially in "SAIGON REUNION". You hear this theme in MANY MOVIE TRAILERS. It's as intense as the piece "THEATER FIRE IN BROOKLYN" in COME SEE THE PARADISE by RANDY EDELMAN.

Kitaro also add some other themes which are more celebratory and not as somber as the theme in SAIGON REUNION. I think it's great because it adds hope to the harsh life of the woman portrayed in the film.

Amen...

Kitaro is a masterful musician and this CD reflects the tone and content of the film, "Heaven and Earth," as well as being meditative.

It was my 1st Kitaro album and I found it awesome. Now I have most of his albums, and I am glad that I heard this one first, otherwise I wouldn't have known the rest. It is a great motionpicture album.
