Wow...WOW and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By Allen "Eric" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heaven (Audio CD)
Every once in awhile an artist comes along that is unique, fresh and very talented. In 1997, this person proved to be Brittish singing sensation Jai. With his combination of boyish charm and androgenous style voice, Jai seemed on the fast road to sucess when his album first debuted. He even co-wrote one of the best tracks on the album, if not certainly one of the most catchy("I Need Love"). Jai's rendition of the classic tune "Cry Me a River" is even more beautiful and the arrangment is music to one's ears. Many people are perplexed at the notion of why this young man never released another album, and quite frankly I would love to ask him that question myself. He was everything you wanted an artist to be: polite and well mannered, good looking, good singer live( a real testament to an artist today) and even played the piano. Why do talents like this get weeded out in this industry. If anyone out there who knows Jai or is/was affiliated with his record label, I really think you had something special on your hands, but because it wasn't "Platinum" (the only color the industry cares about). They dropped him. How would we feel today if Berry Gordy of Motown didn't allow artists to grow and expand musically, but just wanted the same formula over and over again? That's not music, that's an assembly line, and that's where music is going if people like Jai aren't given the time to grow as artists

Under his given name, Jason Rowe (a/k/a Jai) is soon to be releasing a new CD called "Lovelife" (it's on a German record label called Four Music and is slated for a Feburary 2007 release).

you gotta hear this,

yes yes i am taking that title from a catchy advertisement for aiwa...but you know, that really is the message. you've got to hear this. you have to hear jai's voice and his songs and the melodys and just how all of this is put together in one great package. though you get a somewhat cocktail lounge sound from him...it's still good. GREAT. his voice is so smooth it gives you the chills...he has this great jazzy and dream-like voice and tone...the songs are just beautiful! he's is original. he's british! ;) even if you don't fall in love with the songs you'll fall in love with his voice and appreciate that much---his talent. he puts together some great songs on this album...unfortunately since he's not apart of the mainstream music (THANK GOD! ) he is one of the music world's rare gems. you might have hears a dj mix of "i believe" but it does no credit whatsoever to the orignal form of the song...and only caters to the premature music taste of 13 year olds...if you appreciate jazz and blues and real pop...get this album. it's music you hear when it rains and music you hear when you're with someone you love.

If anyone, jai's the one to take yu to 'heaven',

i first heard this great somewhat cocktail-like crooner on an ad for his album on tv. i only saw it once and never saw the ad again...but his voice was just a sound you can't forget...i bought it and like everyone i think has said...it really grows on you. it's got great listening ability to it...something you can pop in to relax or to have as background music to rainy weather...anytime or place you play it though it's infectious. i've only heard a dj mix of 'i believe' on a pop station...but it deserves to be heard in it's true and original form...i hope more people go out and buy this album to make it more visible...he's a great artist...no questions or doubts about it.

This is one of my all-time favorite albums. It's perfect date music. VERY sensual. Why did Jai never release a 2nd album? Does anyone know? I'm ready.

Actually Heavenly,
This review is from: Heaven (Audio CD)
It's been so many years ago I bought this and now stumbling on it at such a great price, well,I just can't believe it..This is a unique album and I understand why most americans don't get it.His voice is alittle to genteel for our ears.Try and have an open mind and you will be rewarded with a real gifted singer. Most of our pop singers today(not all) couldn't sing their way out of a wet paper bag. Thus is the reason they always sing over a track. This was and still is one of my faves.Give a listen. For the price how could you go wrong?

This is a CD to listen to when you really want to hear something soothing and just relax to. It is just different and probaly the most original CD you will ever hear

A breath of fresh air from Britain,
This review is from: Heaven (Audio CD)
Rarely in American music, do we get to hear someone with such a great voice. Highlights of the disc include "Heaven", "Cry Me a River", "I Believe" and the acoustic reprise of "Believe". This great voice hasn't released a follow-up to this album. Even if Jai doesn't, his disc's soulful singing brings shivers to my spine, and makes me inspired to go out and do good deeds. This is fantastic music; listen to it for yourself.

Listening to "heaven" is like wandering into a black and white cafe with an excellent stage act. Neo-noirjazzpop sung by a handsome dark angel as though his (after)life depended on it. Original songs like "I Believe", "Wishing The Rain Away", and "Heaven" are atmospheric and haunting and the cover of "Cry Me A River" probably made Julie London envious. J.J. Cale's "Magnolia" is given a languid yet sweat soaked arrangement that is Weller-worthy.
Jason (Jai) Rowe has a new album out, released in Germany in February 2007 and set for US release sometime in the fall. In the meantime, snag a copy of "Heaven" before they are all gone. Buy two, a friend will probably want one after they hear it. |
