Review

This must-have reference introduces the most important and most helpful concepts in The Urantia Book. Sheila's book also reconciles these new concepts with existing religious beliefs in a meaningful and practical way.--Dr. B. Dale Sams, DMin (McCormick Theological Seminary)

In examining Heaven Is Not the Last Stop, it is obvious that Keene-Lund is a very intelligent, knowledgeable, and gifted person. Not only does she have an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of The Urantia Book, but a broad knowledge of Western Civilization. The diagrams in the book are amazing! I think Heaven Is Not the Last Stop is an excellent way for people to get an in-depth knowledge of The Urantia Book.--Meredith J. Sprunger, PhD. Minister, United Church of Christ, Retired Author, Spiritual Psychology and The Abridged Urantia Papers Co-author, A History of the Urantia Papers

In a user-friendly form, Sheila Keene-Lund has made The Urantia Book accessible to countless people who may have been daunted by the sheer size and dense language of the original. The insights it conveys should have a major impact on religious understanding in the 21st century.--Peter Laurence EdD, Author and consultant on religious diversity and spirituality

About the Author

Two near-death experiences before she was a teenager and a passionate, inquisitive spirit propelled Sheila Keene-Lund into a many-faceted exploration of the true nature of reality. Sheila was born to an English father and a Puerto Rican mother in Vigo, Spain. The family lived in Cuba, England, and Puerto Rico before moving to the Eastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia, where she grew up. Raised a Catholic, she began to delve into other paths and practices until she found The Urantia Book, and discovered its astonishing capacity to integrate teachings on a personal spiritual evolution with a vastly enlarged perspective of cosmic citizenship.

Introduced to the Transcendental Meditation technique in 1977, Sheila became a certified teacher in 1980. In Iowa she was also a deaconess in the Liberal Catholic Church, and served as a hospice worker who developed workshops on spiritually caring for the living and dying. Sheila devoted much of the last fifteen years to writing Heaven Is Not the Last Stop. It has been a journey of research and reflection, of theoretical and creative insight clarifying and expanding the big picture of existence. Today she is a highly respected leader and teacher in the Urantia movement worldwide, Sheila is currently Education Committee Chair of Urantia Association International and Vice-President of the Urantia Association of Florida. A lively teacher, she leads classes and workshops based on principles discovered in her research and described in Heaven Is Not the Last Stop.

"My work is designed to offer an expanded perspective to those who are ready for the next evolutionary step: cosmic citizenship in a friendly and intelligently managed universe."

More About the Author

Two near-death experiences before she was a teenager - and a passionate, inquisitive spirit - propelled Sheila Keene-Lund into a many-faceted exploration of the true nature of reality. Raised a Catholic, she soon began to delve into other paths and practices, including Transcendental Meditation, which she taught for 15 years. In 1992, during a period of intensely questioning the validity of her beliefs, she found The Urantia Book. Attempting to disprove its claims and concepts, she instead discovered its astonishing capacity to integrate teachings on personal spiritual evolution with a vastly enlarged perspective of cosmic citizenship.

A lively teacher with a fresh message, Sheila is in demand for speaking engagements and leads classes and workshops on the practical application of the extraordinary principles in Heaven Is Not the Last Stop. She owns and operates Document It! Inc., a company she founded in 1991 that specializes in procedures analysis and documentation for Fortune 500 companies, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living environments--and also serves as a volunteer for hospice care and mediation.

Sheila is currently Education Committee Chair of Urantia Association International and vice president of the Urantia Association of Florida. Sheila lives in central Florida with her husband, Bart. She has three sons-Guy, Leon, and Erik-and three grandchildren.

"Heaven is Not the Last Stop" by Sheila Keene-Lund places into the spiritual context of our planet a new revelation about the nature of God and the universe (The Urantia Book), making it more accessible to spiritual seekers. Since The Urantia Book was published in 1955 truth seekers have found it a spiritually satisfying, but challenging read. "Heaven is Not the Last Stop" combines the author's personal experience, the new revelation, and numerous other sources into a well footnoted presentation which explores many issues of interest to anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of spiritual values. The author uses her personal experience to show how her life was transformed as she found this new truth.

The book starts with a Preface which introduces the author, describing two near death experiences before she was twelve years old. It goes on to outline her spiritual quest, finding the Urantia Book and being lead to write this book. There is a provocative description of where the title of her book came from.

The Introduction begins: "Have you ever asked yourself why our world is burdened with intolerance, prejudice, and hate when the foundations of all major religions are love, peace and service? Do you wonder why we can't seem to align our human actions with our divine ideals?" These are timely questions indeed! This book proceeds to address these questions in light of the epochal revelation and our spiritual traditions.

The book is divided into four sections; the first is "Humanity's Spiritual Origin." The six chapters of this section discuss Reason and Faith, Religion and Revelation as well as Celestial Organization. However, a key chapter discusses Cultural Progress and the Brotherhood of Man.

Finally, a high-level explication of the Urantia revelation. Students of the Urantia text have waited literally decades for a masterful exposition by an advanced student; well, here it is. For beginners: Once you are initiated to the joys of reading The Urantia Book, this book is the next best thing, especially if you want a complete overview of the entire revelation in relation to current knowledge. The numerous very helpful charts are another plus. Bravo Sheila!

Because I am familiar with the Urantia Book and other materials relating to the book, I suggest this one as an addition to your library. It was 10 years in the making, I think, and it is very detailed and a post-college reading level. If you are interested in taking Urantia Book online classes, it's even more important to add this one to your list. Check it all out.

I found a copy of the Urantia book at the library back in the early 90's.. For me it was pretty difficult to understand; especially all of the different orders of celestial beings and their assignments. Even though i didn't understand a lot of the things in the book, i knew it was a lot of truth in it and i just needed some other source to explain it.. Almost 20 years later, i found that source of information in Heaven Is Not the Last Stop.. This book is so well written i can hardly put it down. I am about halfway done as i have only started it about a week and a half ago.. For anyone interested in the Urantia book or desires to know the truth about where we came from, and where/what our ultimate goal is (even after we leave this planet) i most definitely recommend this book.. Through epochal revelation it corrects the errors in our most sacred books such as the Bible,Quran, and many others and clearly reveals the truths that are in all of them..

This must read book synthesizes science, philosophy, history, religion and revelation into an easy read of knowledge for a personal transformation of cosmic consciousness, spiritual unity and cultural progress. All research is documented in the notes with an extended bibliography. I could not put it down; I was hungry for the information.

I have been a reader of the Urantia Book for almost 20 years and I still find a lot of the concepts difficult to grasp. I was searching for a "translation" or an interpretation in simpler language. I was hoping this book would be it. However, the author writes in a very academic style, using long words and sentences, so it didn't simplify the subject for me at all.

To be fair, she never promised a simplification. What this book turns out to be is more of a comparison between concepts presented in the Urantia Book and similar concepts found in the major religions or alternatives belief systems. For that it is interesting and quite valuable. But it is heavy going and will probably take several months to read. Ideally suited for the intellectual, academic or enquiring mind.
