Heaven Sent is quick and easy read, sure to grasp many readers' attention. I like how this book tied in elements of spiritual warfare and gifts, concepts which so many Christians ignore. Being a high school senior myself, I relate to Andrew's struggles, and I was drawn to the book because I felt he gave words to many struggles in my spiritual life that I haven't been able to give words to.

Awesome job Montré Bible, can't wait for the next one!

This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
HEAVEN SENT by Montre' Bible is the story of Andrew Turner, a typical seventeen year old high school student, who finds out his life is not as it appears, and nothing like he had been led to believe. During the prime of his teen years, he realizes the person he thought he was is far from the person he really is.

Andrew was raised in a single parent home. His father walked out, and Andrew's mother became his life. He works a part time job to help make ends meet and would do any and everything in his power to ensure his mother's happiness. When she begins to take ill, Andrew wonders what his life would be like if she were no longer in it. His deepest fear comes true when his mother dies and Andrew is left all alone.

As if dealing with his mother's death isn't enough, he also goes to live with his mother's best friend and her daughter in another city, leaving all his friends and classmates behind. When Andrew begins to have blackouts, dizzy spells and terrifying visions that reveal he may have supernatural powers, he unsuccessfully tries to keep his symptoms to himself so people won't think he is crazy. In the midst of it all, his estranged father comes back into his life.

While he is adjusting to living with his mother's best friend and the reappearance of his father, secrets are revealed to Andrew about his parents. He finds out that he is a half angel and half human and, that there is a demonic spirit that is trying to take over his life and his soul. Feeling like he is in the twilight zone, but finally coming to grips with who and what he is, Andrew is determined to win this spiritual warfare and prove that good does rule over evil.

HEAVEN SENT is a fast-paced, suspenseful read I couldn't put down. Written with well-developed characters and a very unique storyline, this is not your average Christian Fiction read. Although it dealt with supernatural and demonic issues, it also showed no matter how much evil there is, good will always win. The story was not at all preachy, but in fact intriguing, and had me wanting more. Kudos to Bible on his debut novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Angels Unaware, August 12, 2005
This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
Has anyone ever told you to be careful when you entertain strangers because you could be entertaining an angel unaware? In this coming of age Christian Fiction novel, Montre Bible has taken this particular passage of scripture from the New Testatment and combined it with passages of scripture in the Old Testament that prove that there were beings who were part angel and part human called Nephilim. Further research says that these part angel/part human were giants who roamed the earth all those years ago.

Meet Andrew Turner, your typical high school senior who is dealing with what most young men his age experience. Coming into his manhood, falling for a girl who just likes him as a friend, holding down a part time job after school, and helping his mother around the house as she struggles to take care of him by herself. Then suddenly Andrew's world is turned upside down in one day.

Andrew would always have dreams, but they were coming more frequently and more vividly, while it seemed at the same time his mother was literally losing her mind. When his mother's biological mother passes away, Andrew's past, present and future is revealed to him, his past being the pivotal point in his life. He soon learns that his mother's illness was all part of an unholy plan that will test his faith and touch everything he loves. Andrew's experiences will teach him that he has to stand strong in the Word and put his faith and trust in God.

Author Montre Bible has written a fictional but spiritual novel that challenges readers to look at their own spiritual lives and the gifts and talents they possess from God, to seek Him and allow them to be used. Mr. Bible's twist on his biblical insight concerning angels and humans will cause you to run your own scriptural research to follow along with him as he takes you through the journey with Andrew.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling plot, decent writing, July 13, 2005
This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
In his debut novel HEAVEN SENT, Montre Bible takes readers on a trip to Heaven, Texas and into the life of Andrew, a teen with everyday problems--and extraordinary origins. Using concepts from the Bible, science and his wonderful imagination, the author illustrates realities of the spirit realm and its impact upon the world we live. The plot is far-reaching in scope, but the writing doesn't always keep up with all the characters sounding alike (Dang was a favorite word for everyone). Still, the book raises questions that will take readers to their Bibles and to their knees.

The curse words and the technique used to mask them was a little distracting for a Christian fiction book, however I appreciated Mr. Bible's attempt to depict his characters honestly. Interspersed with a page-turning storyline are many thought-provoking questions about evolution, spiritual warfare and the spirit realm. Some sections reminded me of Frank Peretti's THIS PRESENT DARKNESS and Tananarive Due's THE LIVING BLOOD. Other parts, like Andrew's assertion that he will have to marry a Christian to protect against fallen angels, confused me a little. Aren't all Christians advised in the Bible to marry Christians?

This was a good first effort and I look forward to more from Mr. Bible. Three and a half stars.

I was intrigued by the title and the subject, and when I started it I thought well this is interesting. But when I got into it I couldn't put it down. I know it is suppose to be fiction, but it is written as if all of it is true...as part of it is according to scripture. I like Montre's style and hopefully he will write more....perhaps another with Andrew and Antonio. This could be a great series of books and ministry to people. It shows there are good and bad angels (which I believe)and there is good and bad freedom which as an older person I never thought about. It was a great explanation of it. I love the characters and it was very well written, easy to read as it was broken up in short chapters. If he writes another book, I will be one of the first to read it...or as soon as I find out about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good read for Young Adults!, July 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
Heaven Sent by Montré Bible is a straight forward read addressing the continuous internal struggle of knowing how to navigate one's own religious/spiritual path.

Andrew Turner is nearing the end of his senior year. Growing up black in the small town of Heaven, Texas, where he lives with his mother, Andrea, he has been well cared for and loved. As his mother's health begins to fail he senses life is about to change. Then he learns that a grandmother he has never known has died. His mother reveals she was adopted. She admits there are other family secrets she must share and vows to reveal them when the time is right. Before Andrea can share them she is killed in an accident. Andrew turns to his mother's close friend, Karen, in hopes that she can help him uncover the secrets and piece together the truth.

With every new event and secret revealed Andrew turns to the inner source-his relationship with God-to sort through each new development and decides how to respond. Andrew's compassion helps him to work through the loss of his mother while finding appreciation for his unique heaven-sent talents and for the family members he did not know he had.

The real world struggles of young love, senior prom, graduation and the uncertainties of what comes next requires his discernment. This believable small town life is mixed with Christian mystique directly connected to biblical scripture that allows the reader to ponder the story in the context of one's own life.

This novel is a great read for young adults who recognize, like Andrew, that their life path is unique. With an above-average level of patience and trust in God, Andrew's faith guides him as he lives his spiritual/religious life with deliberate consciousness, meeting each turn of events with a level of maturity that is rarely seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pestiferous Journies, April 15, 2005

This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
Being a native of the Dallas area, I have been eagerly awaiting the relase of "Heaven Sent." When I first heard about the book, it immediately sparked my curiosity as a sapid work; but as I found out more, that curiosity was only complemented. The tribulations of such a boy and battles with his learning burdens fictionally incarnate and amplify the emotions of moving from boy to young man. This book is an "A" at minimum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faith, Love, and Pain, June 20, 2005
By
Memphis RAWSISTAZ (Memphis, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heaven Sent (Paperback)
Heaven Sent marks the literary debut of Montre Bible. It is a suspenseful tale that puts a twist on the age-old battle of good versus evil and takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of faith, love, and pain.

Andrew Turner seems like the typical "all American" teenager whose only concerns are popularity, his grades, and getting the girl of his dreams. He lives with his loving mother, and holds deep resentment towards his absentee father who was rumored to have "gone crazy" because of his religious beliefs. All sense of normality ends when his mother is stricken with a deadly, mysterious illness. Suddenly, he begins having terrifying visions that reveal that he has supernatural powers. To top it all off, his long absent, sane father returns into his life with the twin brother that he never knew existed. Andrew is then faced with the revelation that he and his family are pawns in the centuries old battle between Heaven and Hell, and his decisions would either make him into a warrior for God, or cause him eternal damnation.

Heaven Sent is a solidly constructed novel that flowed easy and at a fast pace. I was at first skeptical about reading it, especially when I read the comments about spiritual warfare and biblical spins on the book jacket. I figured it would be another novel preaching to me about what I'm doing wrong in my life. I was wrong! The truth is, I could not put this book down. I was totally enthralled by both Andrew's character and his plight. All of the characters were well developed, and the story was both original and very interesting. I rate this novel 4.5 and would definitely recommend it to others. I'm anxiously anticipating the sequel (hint, hint)!
