Book Description

Nominee of the 2007 Parsec Award for Best Novella, from the 2012 John W. Campbell Award Nominee.

"Lafferty is a funny writer, with a clear obsession for afterlife mythos and an admirable hand at drawing likable characters... one of the most promising writers... It's great to see her turning out such good work already!" ~BoingBoing.com

What if you died and went to Heaven and it wasn't all that? What if it was flat-out boring?

Would you leave?

After their deaths, best friends Kate and Daniel learn that Heaven is not their cup of tea, so to speak. Roads connect the afterlives of all religions, including those from other times and even other species.

But turmoil keeps churning back on Earth, and Kate and Daniel discover secrets between themselves, and secrets about the world they left, and they begin to wonder if their "aimless" wandering is part of a much bigger design.

Heaven is the first book in the epic Afterlife Series that began as a wildly popular free podcast. It is followed by Hell, Earth, Wasteland, and War.

**Praise for Heaven: **

"Full of surprises and pointed observations about human behaviour, Heaven is a terrific debut." ~Minister Faust, author of From The Notebook of Dr. Brain and The Alchemists of Kush

5.0 out of 5 stars A high-stakes romp through myth and legend April 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this series as a podcast and I'm so glad to see it brought to ebooks at last. Where do you go when your story starts with the death of your main characters? Joining Kate and Daniel on their tour of the afterlives is a real treat. The characters are vivid and the story has a great flow. The book starts as an interesting concept and quiet love story and blossoms into rich mythological detail woven among a race against doomsday. Highly recommended for mythology buffs and casual fantasy fans alike. And you won't be able to stop with just one! Stay tuned for HELL, EARTH, WASTELAND, and WAR.

"Heaven must be really boring, if you think about it logically." --George Hrab

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read October 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Overall, this book was a very enjoyable read with good amounts of action, down time, and back story. The writing itself is very good standing on its own. The characters are real, although I prefer Kate over David (maybe because I'm a lady?). While I did enjoy the novel, towards the middle the pace started to pick up and the end felt a little rushed some how, but perhaps I will get the information I craved at the end of this book in the next book of the series, which I will be purchasing shortly.

I definitely recommend picking this up. It's a good book at a great price point and can be read in a day or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven and a whole lot more May 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I've listened to a large number of audio books and podcast novels. The Afterlife Series is by far my favorite. Ms. Lafferty takes a magnificent and unique look at religion, philosophy, humanity, grief, love, and sacrifice. Her approach to what may happen to us when we leave this world actually helped me cope with the grief and questions I had about the fate of a departed loved one.

Heaven, which is the first of the series, completely captured my attention as I found myself smitten with the perfectly imperfect main characters, Kate and Daniel. Their adventures take them far beyond the realm of the Christian Heaven, and there is a lot to learn about mythology and other religions in this delicious story.

I have been literally aching to own this book in text form for years, and eagerly plunk my money on the counter. If you wonder about the afterlife, either because you've lost someone dear or are just inquisitive about what lies beyond death, then I highly recommend that you give this series a try.
