Editorial Reviews

Review

"Each chapter begins with a detailed, illustrated glossary of these aromatic ingredients, and many of the imaginative recipes, which range from Fresh Tuna with Citrus, Starfruit, and Jicama to Crab Soup with Lemongrass, Tamarind, and Mint, are shown in gorgeous color photographs. The text is a pleasure to read, and the recipes are enticing."—Library Journal, starred review

This book has many beautiful photographs of dishes. The first part begins with descriptions of aromatic Asian herbs. The book also includes aromatic Asian spices and seasonings, such as mirin and hoisin.

The index is inadequate. I have a hard time finding some of the recipes I know are in the book. The index does not list individual ingredients. You have to know to look for mango recipes, for example, under the Drinks and under the Salads headings.

Every recipe I have tried has been good. The measurements and instructions are very clear.

I love this book and have cooked many recipes from it such as Coconut and Green Mango Fish Parcels, Tempeh and Green
Beans in Lemongrass Paste, Cabbage Sauteed with Black Mustard Seeds, Sweet Soy Pork, Crisp Barbecued Pork and many times the Crisp Rojak Salad. I agree with the difficulty of using the index, but the recipes are well written and work. The information about the ingredients is very helpful and the photography is great.

The recipes, photos, and text are great but the Kindle edition is poorly done. It's very difficult to determine the title of the recipe as you flip through the page. The name of the recipe is listed as the last ingredient on the list of recipe ingredients! At other times the recipe name is listed as the first ingredient of the recipe! The index is poorly formatted - It's very difficult to find anything. It seems like no one proof read the Kindle edition.
