Mathis at his best and most "romantic",
By
This review is from: Heavenly (Audio CD)
This was one of my mother's favorite LPs and during my highschool and college years I borrowed it often as it became the "soundtrack" for many dates and romantic evenings. Here we have Mathis in 1958 when he was at his vocal and artistic peak. Glenn Osser provides the wonderful arrangements for these twelve numbers that beautifully compliment Mathis's flawless delivery. There isn't a bad number in the bunch and some of the lesser known titles provide the real highlights such as "They Say It's Wonderful", "I'll Be Easy To Find", and "That's All". It's all an unabashedly romantic affair but who cares. Fire it up while relaxing with your better half and enjoy as the fireworks start. I also agree with the reviewer from Michigan... when I moved out and picked up my own copy of this LP it came as a double with the other Osser-arranged 1960 LP "Faithfully" which contained similar type numbers/arrangements. Considering the length of these LPs Sony/CBS could easily have put them on a single extended length CD... as a matter of fact at one point it was issued as a double length cassette. So let's get to it guys... if not at least reissue "Faithfully" as soon as humanly possible. (For folks who care the "Faithfully" release contained :Faithfully; Tonight; Nobody Knows (How Much I Love You); One Starry Night; Follow Me; You Better Go Now; Secret Love; Maria; Where Do You Think You're Going; And This Is My Beloved; and Where Are You? If you like "Heavenly", write to Sony and tell them to restore this classic as well.)

Having listened to the Maestro of romance since the 60's, I found the quality of this album superb! I have most of his cd's and never tire of listening to themFor instance the main title 'Heavenly' on this cd sent my heart racing. 'More Than You Know' when he hits that hight note sliding up and down in an effortless musical embrace had me racing for Click button to buy this album. I DO RECOMMEND ANY JOHNNY MATHIS DEVOTEE TO ADD THIS TO THEIR COLLECTION OR START ONE!!

Yes, this is a masterpiece album. Maybe Johnny's greatest. But I agree with the other reviewer who says where is FAITHFULLY, and even more so, his other great masterpiece album RAPTURE. What is wrong with Sony/Columbia? Do they ever use their heads? I guess they are holding it out till some date in the future just to keep us on tenderhooks. I have HEAVENLY, FAITHFULLY, and RAPTURE on LPs., thank God. When will Sony wake up?
