Book Description

Angel's Touch December 1995
Honoring her late sister's request to care for her orphaned niece, Jessica McAllister finds trouble in young Maria's uncle, winery owner Benjamin Whittaker, who believes that he is better suited to care for the child.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Jessica McAllister comes to South Bass Island because her brother-in-law is dead and her sister is at death's door; she stays because her dying sister makes her promise that she will look after her daughter, Maria. In order to do the job properly and to see that Maria feels that she is wanted and belongs, Jessie files almost immediately for legal adoption, and in so doing, convinces Maria's paternal uncle, Benjamin Whittaker, that she has come to steal Maria away from her home, her heritage and from him. Benjamin Whittaker fell in love with Jessie seven years before, but she was promised to another, so he didn't pursue her. Now, she has come to the island a widow, childless and apparently with the sole purpose of taking Maria away from him. Convinced that Jessie is exactly like his cold and conniving ex-wife, Benjamin sets out to make sure that Jessie will never get custody of Maria, and to see to it that Jessie is no longer welcome on the island. With the well-being of their niece foremost in their minds, Jessie and Benjamin struggle against each other to gain custody. With the guidance of a guardian angel, and the trust of a six year old girl, Jessie and Benjamin eventually give in to the love that they were destined to share. In Heavenly Persuasion, Lorraine Henderson makes her debut with a touching story of love overcoming animosity, with the help of a charming little girl and the vigilence of a guardian angel.Lorraine Henderson tells a story from the heart! Ms. Henderson is sure to gain a following on the heels of Heavenly Persuasion! A stunning debut!Gerrie Shepard -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother, October 31, 2001
This review is from: Heavenly Persuasion (Angel's Touch) (Paperback)
Well I was excited by the cover of this book, I like books about ships and sailing but when I read this book I was very disappointed. I thought the characters were weak and not developed enough. The hero is a mean man who doens't really get nicer as the story progresses. The heroine was just too good, maybe saintly is a better term. She has come to take care of her dying sister and her child who is the hero's dead brother's family. The story just never seemed to get my attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful - well written, February 13, 2003

Beautiful story - kept my interest to the end. Plus the setting of the story on South Bass Island is very unique. I would love to see a sequel to the story as the child grows up and finds a love of her own, who also has a connection with the Island and makes their home there.
