Saw Heaven's Edge at Hammerjack's in Baltimore and The Cat Club in NYC. Those places are gone but the music isn't. These guys got major rotation on Headbanger's Ball before Nirvana came in and ruined it all. Unfortunately, Heaven's Edge were lumped in with the other hair bands at the turn of the decade just as grunge and rap started taking over and wiping out the greatest era for hard rockin' metal. The hairdo's looked good on MTV but close your eyes and listen to the music. Heaven's Edge closed out the '80's on top with chops galore on such early MTV staples as "Skin to Skin", my personal fave, "Play Dirty", as catchy and mean as they get, and a power ballad to rival any other from that era, "Hold Onto Tonight". And that's just what you'll want to do with this cd as you crank it up all night and hear why this music rocks better than any of the stuff that cut Hair Metal off and the stuff that will never replace it today. Long live ROCK!

Here's another of those bands that should have been huge in the late 80's and early 90's. Philadelphia rockers Heavens Edge had all the right elements to make it big, but for some reason never really broke through, despite the support of fellow Philadelphia band Britny Fox, who was reasonably popular at the time.

Whether you call it melodic hard rock or hair metal, Heavens Edge did it well, incorporating all of the best elements of bands like Warrant, Von Groove, Bon Jovi, and Hurricane. Sure, there's a ballad or two on the band's 1990 self-titled debut, but for the most part this is a pretty rockin' album with plenty of guitar hooks and catchy rock anthems. It's a fun album, and never gets too sleazy or too cheesy.

If you're a fan of the late 80's and early 90's hard rock sound, you'll definitely want to check this band out. Like me, you'll probably end up wondering how you missed this great album the first time around.

NOTE: This is a fairly tough album to find these days, and it has been bootlegged in recent years. Be sure you know what you're getting before you pay top dollar for it.

Artist: Heaven's Edge
Album: Heaven's Edge
Year: 1990
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: Heaven's Edge's widely unknown debut album is an underground classic. Heaven's Edge is basicly a faster, wilder version of hard rock/hair metal bands like Warrant & Danger Danger. Their Debut, released in 1990, features the band's finest work, and many classic songs. "Play Dirty", the first song on the album is a fast, well-written song, with a great chorus. "Skin To Skin" follows the same formula, but is a much better song. "Find Another Way" is a classic hair metal ballad. It features a great melody, and a very powerfull chorus, and would also have been the band's biggest hit, had the album been a comercial success. The album also features many other good songs like "Up Against The Wall', "Bad Reputation", and the thrashy "Can't Catch Me". Overall this is a very good album, the only thing is some songs sound similar, or have minor flaws, otherwise a great album. Heaven's edge faded into obscurity after their album failed to sail and their record label dropped them before finishing their video of "Find Another Way". [July 10, 2010] (From [...])

This album is incredible. I bought it in 1990 and it blew me away. Amazing production, incredible songs, vocals, and overall musicianship.

How this band didn't make it big is beyond me - the had everything - the look, tunes, hooks, and presence.

I would say the best way to compare this band is that they were a combination of Skid Row and Dokken. But they were a LOT BETTER Than those two bands.

I have been looking for this album for a long time and finally found it. This band was robbed by the fact that they didnt go farther than they did. Just as good if not better than Poison, Skid Row or Warrent. Sounds to me alot like Dokken. these guys rock and I'm glad I could add this CD in my speak easy jukebox. good band good price good value
