Biography

"Basically, we wanted to brutalize people and have each song punch people in the face and not let up until they were choking on their own blood. None of this eyeliner-wearing, cupcake shit 'just putting listeners; open ears on the curb and stomping on their heads." Sal Gallegos, Some Girls

The above is good an intro as any to Some Girls, a five-piece unit of punk pedigree hailing from San Diego,… Read more in Amazon's Some Girls Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Ape, Ape, Ape, APE, February 12, 2006

Ron S. (Calhoun, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heaven's Pregnant Teens (Audio CD)
The Epitaph debut from the group some girls, featuring members of the Locust, Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, and Unbroken, is full of chaotic music and strange time signature changes all in the mere time of 25 minutes, and that's including the 9 minute closer "Deathface". That comes to a downfall, yes they're a grindband, but from a grindband you expect more than 13 songs at least 21 or up for maximum.

Another weakness is the monotonous guitar riffs, they all have the same sound in every song, but they just play them differently, but after awhile, you do begin to want a different sound to strum off.

The positive thing is the way the album melds together, it's catchy and heavy and a quick listen so you really never get bored with it, even though I said the guitar was repetitive, it was never boring. Another strongpoint are the satyrical looks on religion in their lyrics. They always have a intelligent look on religion but also construe (sp?) the lyrics to make them seem funny at the same time.

Favorite Tracks: "Beautiful Rune", "Hot Piss", "Totally Pregnant Teens", Marry Mortuary", "Retard and Feathered", "Deathface".

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Girls Really Are This Abrasive, September 28, 2006
This review is from: Heaven's Pregnant Teens (Audio CD)
Some Girls are a new and unique group comprised of band members who fill various other impressive outfits. No matter, this band makes it's voice ferociously clear. The music is comprised of an authentic mix up of hardcore braying guitar and bass over grating drumlines. Succumbing violently into unsettling screams. The album unfolds into a masterpiece of malicious musical catastrophe. I began to notice how very technical the music is, and sometimes even startling when it attempts breakdowns. But overall I was ashamed I doubted them, the song titles, the length. Note this band is not your average hardcore, this is simply the raw potency of it takeing a form of it's own. This album is the equivalent to getting brutally ambushed by the hottest red head you can think of, and as shes about to stomp your skull, she withdrawls and simply kisses your forehead then siles and walks off. It's clear to me though, Some Girls are focused heavily on pure shock value, this music is very coarse and unrelenting, I reccomend for anyone who hates crust and gutterpunk, but occasionally enjoys the speed and intensity it sports. Some Girls strike right above the hip of that, but they do it so well, they almost seem uncomparable.

Brilliant Album nonetheless buy it and worship it

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Girls are geniuses, some girls are not., September 3, 2006
This review is from: Heaven's Pregnant Teens (Audio CD)
I think the only reason I was intrigued by this record and decided to give it a spin was because I read repeatedly that there was no reason. Much like Liars' "They Were Wrong, So We Drowned," but for different reasons, many find both albums to be unlistenable. But Some Girls' second album is a far improvement from their first, "All My Friends Are Going Death," and pretty much put on display their utter disgust with everything from virgins to pinata's.

Grinding gears from top to bottom and clocking in at a whopping 24:23 (this is mathematically shorter than a sitcom when found on DVD) including a nine minute track. Some Girls strip their vocals and put their stamp on of the songs, and destroy the glass that has been broken over their heads. The Liars album is similar, and also chastised incorrectly on false reasoning. Oddly, the Liars and Some Girls are very similar, buton pushing and barrier breaking. But I still like the reviews better that chastise.
