Witty, unpretentious, but sometimes profound., May 24, 1999

This review is from: For Heaven's Sake, Don't Eat the Snake: The Garden of Fools (Paperback)
"Don't Eat the Snake" is easy to read and re-read. It uses traditional poetic forms, including often-clever rhyme, to put a little order into the mess we sometimes make of the world. There's nothing here to make you feel Ribble is speaking down from some high pulpit, but his subjects are the ones you're accustomed to hearing pretentious people bore you with. Ribble isn't boring at all, and he's often outright funny.

Ribble has penned a splendid collection of poems filled with witticisms and insights. His breadth of ideas and knowledge of traditional form should appeal to both the seasoned poet and the aficionado.
