This review is from: Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God (Audio CD)
I've been into Southern Hardcore since Maylene's self-titled, and for the longest time, i had wished for something that's more hardcore than southern. Blacklisted deliver with this album. From beginning to end, this album has attitude, power, speed and swing, everything i wanted in a hardcore album with the vocal style of a rawer Dallas Taylor or Keith Buckley. It really does justice to the genre. That's not to say that Blacklisted are a steal or followers of the aforementioned. Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God is quite easily the illest album of the genre, better than II and Hot Damn! (I haven't really made up my mind about III yet). Lyrically, it is dark, broody and overall human in subject matter and people who just like to pick up single lines have lots of candy. The band clearly focused on the music as well, with many instrumental parts and still more places where the music is so intense and overwhelming where the vocals themselves are almost ignored. This is the first Blacklisted album I've heard, so i can't compare it to their past albums, but I won't hesitate to say that this is the best first impression I have ever had on any hardcore band. This album is actually worth a purchase from a CD store if only to have a look at the booklet.
