swollen heads,

First off I would just like to say that I am a fan of swollen members. I honestly like them, I just wish I could say the same for thier new album. To me they are real hip hop and they cover alot of different spectrums of hip hop which is really hard to find today. The album though does not showcase what made them swollen members. First the production on the album is way weak. I am very dissappointed with the work of Evidence(dilated peoples), Rob the viking and Nucleas etc.... For example "remember the name" which was produced by evidence reminds me of some one elses style mmmmmm.... pharell?? There is nothing innovative or uniuqe in the production. Now the lyrics, Mad child is still on point with the way he stacks words like legos and moka is still inovative. Prevail changed his style for the worst. He is not as aggressive with his deliverey and he sounds like a thousand other rappers. Look all and all this album comes down to money. I quote Moka Only as to saying "I'm done with rap, now its time to cash in" and Mad Child as to saying "mad child talkn bout cash son of a *****, I was just broke before lifes better when your rich". I think they have changed there style to gear towards the American mainstream because thats where the money is at. I'll be looking for them on MTV soon, especially after they just signed a new disribution deal with virgin records. So if you want an album with senseless lyrics and recycled beats then this is for you. Otherwise I don't suggest it.

complete let down,

This cd is awful. Some of the beats sound like stuff you would hear from ludacris. Rhyme wise it doesnt even compare to balance. The music on the cd sounds like it was made for pop radio. Swollen members basically sold out but still pretend to be hardcore. If you want to hear some good hip hop pick up balance or bad dreams. Even monsters would be a better choice then this.

this swollen members album was good but lots of things have changed.. from monsters in my closet to this album there lots of difference. they should just go back to their roots and not experiment anymore and just stick to what made them good. but dont get me wrong this is a good album. HEAVY

Sell out!!!!!,

I have been a Swollen member fan since "Balence", and have loved everyone of there CD's "Bad Dreams", "monsters in the Closet". However, this CD sucks, like most other Swollen fans, I feel that they are trying to hard to go mainstream. The reason that they became popular in the first place was beacuse they had the raw original style, now all there tracks have dumbed down lyrics, club beats, and R&B hooks. I think adding Moka Only was a bad idea, all the tracks he is on sound the same and are.....jiggy! I don't understand why Swollen Members would lose the style that made them popular in the first place, I guess jiggy-rap pushes more units.....$$$. Put out another album like this and they will not be around for another.....

I have nothing to add that others haven't already put down, but I need to help bring that rating DOWN. This album SUCKS. I'm a big Swollen fan but these chumps aren't Swollen Members.I read some lame interview with Mad Child where he said they basically knuckled down in their new studio and got back to roots. He felt that they suffered creatively following the success of Balance. Whatever, dude. Swollen's fallen off. I hope they get back.

THEY SOLD OUT,

If you like their hip hop sound before, it's gone now. You can tell they totally sold out...MIGHT AS WELL GO BUY A NELLY CD NOW. You know when and MC starts rhyming about the size of the rims on his cadilac that he is not hip hop anymore. IF YOU LIKE RAP, then you'll like this cd, but if you are looking for a sick hip hop style check out one of their older CD's like Balance. I never thought Swollen would sell out, how sad

Stop Blaming Canada, This CD ROCKS!!!,

For those of you bashing Canada and its music need to sit and think for a bit. I am a fan of this group and have been from the beginning and I forget who said the following quote: "This is yet another reason why we should ban music made by Canadians. We need to remove the hat worn by the United States by any means necessary. ", but they need to get a lobodymy. I'm proud of our Canadian artists including SM and I have to say that some of the stuff coming from the States hasn't been good either. So before you make a comment about one country, you need to look at your own first. Now for my review, I really liked this album and all the songs on it. I too liked all the prank calling they do between songs especially the one at the end, I crack up every time I hear it, the hidden track is good too. There is a mixture of music which gives it a good feel. The DVD that comes with the album is great too. I love the behind the scenes stuff they have and the vids, though I am a bit upset that they didn't include the vid for "Watch This". With all that said, I HIGHLY recommend this disc to everyone, even those who aren't true SM fans like me

S&M's cash in scheme,

Ever since I heard that Moka Only was rejoining Swollen I had a feeling there was going to be trouble. Hes worked with Madchild and Prevail before, and everytime he does the songs come out with a mindless club rap song. That problem is on the whole album now. Its obvious the style the hardcore Swollen fans liked isnt going to make them money. It was grimey. Talked about dungeons. I think thats something that made me like them, because it was different. Its been thrown out the window and I hope this is a big publicity stunt (which I'm still not overly thrilled about) and they go back, otherwise a good group just fell apart. If you like that mindless money, women, and party music youll probably like it. If youre a fan from the days of Balance and earlier, you probably are going to be disappointed.

Best Swollen Members CD Yet,
By Swollen's #1 Fan (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heavy (Audio CD)
This CD is great! I have been a Swollen fan ever since Balance. I have all 4 of their CD's (Balance, Bad Dreams, Mosters In The Closet, and Heavy) and this new one is some of their best work yet. This album has 14 of the illest beats I've ever heard, sweet lyrics, and fat bass. The beats are somewhat different than their previous ones, but they are still great. Their lyrics are as good as ever and the addition of Moka Only has helped them out a lot in terms of his writing/singing abilities. Compared to Balance and Bad Dreams there are very few other rappers featured on this CD, but now that they have made more of a name for themselves, Swollen doesn't need to feature as many other rappers. However, the album does have Evidence, Abstract Rude, and Son Doobie. The Bonus DVD has some sweet backstage and live footage, interviews, and 6 kick-ass music videos. This is a must buy for any Swollen Members fan, or anyone else who wants to get into the stuff that Battle Axe Records has put out. Check out www.battleaxerecords.com for more info.
