2.0 out of 5 stars Historical perspective, August 2, 2010
This review is from: Heavy Losses (Paperback)
While many of the 'allegations' made in this book were proven true, much or most of it was negated by the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was true that the American military in 1985 was in less than stellar condition, with the aftertaste of Vietnam still lingering, but it failed to see the importance of Reagan's build up.
It recognized that the Soviets were also not in the best of shape, with huge morale problems and questionable equipment, but did not see the upcoming improvements to American morale and equipment.
Reagan was criticized for running deficites, but did not note that the only way he could achieve his goals were to compromise with a Democratic Congress.
In short, this book is not worth purchasing as history has shown it reached too many faulty conclusions.
