I was disappointed in this soundtrack. I am from the oldergeneration of fans who enjoyed the original Heavy Metal film andsoundtrack. I would have thought Ozzy or Metallica would have contributed some music on here... nada! Monster Magnet and Pantara have a good tunes, but that's about it. Other then that, its from more of the new wave of grunge bands. The original one had some big names, at the time, Cheap Trick, Black Sabbath, Devo, just to name a few. I looked at Heavy Metal's web site about the movie, and it looks to be a single story line, instead of six story lines as in the original film. And the film will be shown on a TMC ENCORE, and at theaters but only at midnight showings. I hope the movie does not follow the soundtrack, that would be a huge disappointment. I made the same mistake I did with "Rob Zombie Presents: Frankenstine", NOW THAT WAS A WASTE! Not an ounce of Zombie music on there, just old film score from the vaults. This is the second time I have bought a "lemon". L8TR!

Heavy Metal 2000 is probably one of the best soundtracks I have ever purchased in my life. It has a good variety of modern metal. You have grunge-metal (Full Devil Jacket, Monster Magnet) techno-metal (MDFMK, Apartment 26) full on heavy metal (Pantera, Machine Head) and many others in between. Most soundtracks I find myself having to skip over a bunch of tracks just to get to the few I do like, but I like just about every song on this CD. Time for the run-down:

1. F.A.K.K. U - Ok, sorry, I just don't listen to this. Kinda dumb. 1/5

2. Monster Magnet - Silver Future - Probably my favorite song on this soundtrack. Different from a lot of their newer stuff. Great lyrics and a just overall powerful song. 5/5

3. MDFMK - Missing Time - I liked them better when they were referred to as KMFDM, but this track is surprisingly good and different from most of the stuff on here. 4/5

4. Pantera - Immortally Insane - It's definetly a Pantera song. Fans who like their heaviest stuff will probably love this song. Fits the movie really well. 5/5

5. Zilch - Inside the Pervert Mound - One of the tracks that I just don't like. Doesn't do much for me. 1/5

6. Insane Clown Posse - Dirtball - The WORST group on this CD. 1/5

7. System of a Down - Storaged - Short but sweet. This song was taken from the Sugar EP which is now out of print, so diehard SOAD fans should track this song down. 5/5

8. Days of the New - Rough Day - To be honest, I didn't like their first CD, but the new stuff is pretty good. More than just your typical grunge. 4/5

9. Sinisstar - Psychosexy - One of Fred Durst's new bands. Actually pretty good and different than most bands out there. A very punk-ish track. 4/5

10. Queens of the Stone Age - Infinity - Heavier than most of their stuff. Sounds a lot like the Doors. Fits the movie really well though. 5/5

11. Machine Head - Alcoholocaust - Different than anything on the Burning Red. Kind of a muddy track though, not up to standards. 4/5

12. Full Devil Jacket - Green Iron Fist - One of my favorite new bands. Grunge mixed with heavy metal. Josh screams more on this track than in most of their other songs. 5/5

13. Hate Dept. - Hit Back - I had never heard of these guys until this soundtrack. Not really my type of music. Too much like Marilyn Manson. 1/5

14. Puya - Tirale - Very good use of the bass on this song. Sort of mellow for Puya, but still, a very very great track. 5/5

15. Apartment 26 - Dystopia - Not one of their best songs, but can be cool to listen to if you're in the mood for something different. 3/5

16. Billy Idol - Buried Alive - Typical Billy Idol. Even though he's old, he's still got it. A very moody, creepy track. 4/5

17. Coal Chamber - Wishes - Way better than a lot of their album stuff. Wishes is a B-Side from Chamber Music. Very energetic. 5/5

18. Bauhaus - Dog's a Vapour - I realize a lot of people who bought this soundtrack were fans of this band and wanted something new, but it's definetly not my type of music and it's really boring to me. 1/5

Overall, Heavy Metal 2000 is a really great soundtrack with only about 3 songs to avoid. It's a good mix, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to discover some newer bands.

When I heard that a new Heavy Metal movie was being produced, I immediately began to wonder when the soundtrack was going to be released and what artists would contribute to it. After all, I have been a great fan of the original movie and I thought its soundtrack was one of the best ever. So, while I was looking up information about the new soundtrack, I came across several reviews (many from this site) for the original movie soundtrack. What really seemed to surprise me about some of those reviews was the fact that some newer fans felt "cheated" or disappointed in that album's content. They felt that since it was called "Heavy Metal", it should have been wall-to-wall riffs and power-chording. However, they may have failed to realize that the Heavy Metal movie name came from the popular sci-fi magazine of the same name, not from the type of music that would be found on its soundtrack. Well, it seems the producers of this soundtrack have forgotten the same thing. Aside from tracks from Monster Magnet, Bauhaus (great to hear new stuff from them!), Pantera, and a few others, a good portion of the album is just filler noise. I certainly hope the movie doesn't follow in the soundtrack's footsteps and fail to deliver onscreen. It would truly be a shame.

This is one of the best soundtracks that I have. The soundtrack starts out with a short 1:44 long song called F.A.K.K U, which isn't too bad. The soundtrack really takes off after that with Monster Magnet's "Silver Future". It has a really great sound and overall beat. Then comes MDFMK's song "Missing Time". I have never heard this band before but I really loved their blend of techno. Pantera, who I have grown more fond of recently, adds a hard rockin' contribution to this album. Zilch is another band that has a great techno sound. Next comes Insane Clown Posse with Twiztid. I was actually a little suprised that they had a rap group on this album, among all the other hard rock bands. Although I really can't stand Insane Clown Posse I thought this song wasn't too bad. It raps through out most of it then goes in to a hard rocking chorus. System of a Down's song was short, but I liked the fast beat. System of a Down always rocks. Days of the New, good as always, had a great new song "Rough Day". Sinisstar was a band that I have heard of before and now got a chance to hear them. The lead singer has a voice that rocks, as goes the same for the song. Queens of the Stone Age was a band I have never heard of before, but found their sound to be very good. Machine Head rocks hard with "Alcoholocaust". Next with Full Devil Jacket I got to hear a harder side to them. I first heard them on the Scream 3 soundtrack and loved them. I was also happy with their song on this album. Hate Dept. and Apartment 26 were also both very good. With the song "Tirale" by Puya I was a little disapointed. It's okay because the majority of the cd rocks. Finially I come to my favorite. Coal Chamber's "Wishes" kicked the most ass on the cd. Being a big Coal Chamber fan I highly anticipated this track the most. There is nothing else to say except it totally rocks you. How can I forget Billy Idol's song "Buried Alive". Another one of my favorites where you here a harder side to Billy with a little techno thrown in. Finially on the last track I was also disapointed as I was with the song by Puya. I found the last track to be a little slow and boring, compared to the rest of the cd, but still that's alright. Overall I was very impressed with this album. Hopefully the movie will do the same for me as the first one did. If you want something that will rock you then I would suggest buying this one.

I would like to say that this is an awesome cd. I like that they didnt instantly go to big name bands with no talent(korn, etc.) but rather selected some of the best heavy metal bands out there to produce one heckuva hard rock cd. The best songs in my opinion the best songs are silver future, green iron fist, missing time, alcoholocaust, hit back, wishes, and dystopia (although all the songs were good).

Besides another great Pantera song, this is really nothing special. Many of the bands contained on this cd I wouldn't even qualify as music much less heavy metal. Peace

This is the best soundtrack I've heard since Dee Snider's Strangeland. The album rocks, especially with new songs from bands like MDFMK and Zilch. There is only one small problem I have with it. Why'd they have to disrupt the flow of the soundtrack with a song by my most hated "duo" of all time?: Insane Clown Posse (w/Twizted.. whatever.) Other than that trash, all the songs are worthy of the long-awaited Heavy Metal sequel. I can't wait till the movie comes out, AND the videogame. Let's just hope that the movie rocks as hard as the soundtrack.

This soundtrack is well worth the money you're paying. Hell, MDFMK's 'Missing Time' is well worth the money by itself. There are a lot of really good songs on the album, but that one stands out the most. As with any soundtrack, though, you get your duds, and there are a few weak tracks on the album. That's ok, though, the album's still worth the buy.

i'd like to say at the outset, that of the eighteen bands represented on this disc, there is only one of which do i own an album. And it would not be unfair to say the reason I ran out and got this album, rather than waiting awhile, perhaps seeing the film first, was Bauhaus. [An Aside: but then i never would have purchased it!...] But for Bauhaus's first song in seventeen/eighteen years! And, it, not in the least disappointing. Sounds as if it were recorded in the same week as "Burning From Inside"; as clean and dark as anything they've done, and Murphy's wraithesque incantions (a Murphyean variation upon a theme by Rumi...) is a sweet chill breath on your neck on a full-moon night of a London Particular. But that's at the END of this album. There's almost seventy minutes between the start of the music and our reaching Bauhaus. And what a ride it is...

If yer lookin' fer Heavy Metal music, boy... This isn't it. Neither was the original soundtrack, for that matter. Had it on vinal record. Gatefold album cover was beautiful and ... um, ...useful. Was Journey heavy metal? Stevie Nicks? The magnificant Don Fedler? Sure it had <ehem> Sammy Hager, and the masters of metal: Black * & Blue * *, ...but a heavy metal record, it wasn't. And HEAVY METAL 2000 is no metal album. Heavy as hell throughout (okay, 95%), and touching upon some of the modern inheritors (hell, assassins...) to the metal throne (whatever that is). There are no Metallicas (Napster of Puppets), Limp Bizkits, Prodigys, or any other eMpTyV stars here. Go listen to that crappy Matrix soundtrack for any the Feature of the Labels Flavor-of-the-Month Band. Hrumph. Now, off my soapbox and on with the review...

The opening "un"theme "FAKK 2" is a summation of a way of life. It's not for me here to speak to you of the simply stated repeating line of lyrics. You're either on the bus, or... The first rush of songs begins with something called Monster Magnet and lets up after System Of A Down. This is an onslaught sweeps through the incredible hi-lo-fi riff of "Silver Future"; the latest incarnation of KMFDM with a phenominal telling of their "Missing Time"; Pantara unsheathing their cerebral cellular problems; and then the interred sick marvel of the late Zilch; Insane Clown Posse w/Twiztid (the big surprise for me, i don't care much for their material, but this one! ;=}); and the balls-out adrenialine-rush-smack-in-the-face track called "Storaged". Days Of The New give a (slight) repreive from the meyhem (my least preferred track); before (the unsigned at time of recording) Sinisstar deliver one of the three best tracks on the disc. Queens Of The Stone Age and Machine Head preceeded Full Devil Jacket wrecking ear havoc with "Green Iron Fist". Hate Dept. don't let the pace ease, and Puya pillage us with a track that has been previous described as Pantara jams with Santana; who am i to argue? Apartment 26 and Billy Idol (his first track in almost a decade) have songs that perhaps best reflect the "impression" of the disappointing film -- haunting echoes of future past...?); just before Coal Chamber reveals their "Wishes"; and then we end up with the post-apocalyptic ghosts of the resurrected Bauhaus. Which is where i came in on this threading yarn.

No finer soundtrack have I heard in years. Since `95 when the original _Heavy Metal_ came out on cd, really... No finer collection of "modern" songs have I heard in quite a few "modern" times (_A Matter Of Degrees_, 1991 -- almost a decade ago). Before that would have to be, of course, _Repo Man_, but that's another tale.

It will turn the basin of your brain into a smoking crater. And when it is over, you'll crawl across the wreckage of your room, to the cd player, reach up, and hit PLAY again. ***

[The Bonus CDROM is rather disappointing. Can't say too much tho', it didn't add anything to the price.]

Like many, I prefer the older heavy metal bands, so this was actually a bit of a disappointment. There's some good here, but most of the music I just found annoying and pointless... but that's a taste thing. Buy this if you like the bands represented.
However, one of the draws for this was supposed to be the second disc, including a special issue of the magazine that was only available on the second CD. Problem is, the crappy and totally retarded "Hyper CD Technology," is nothing but a method for the issuers to keep people from accessing the media on the disc, without having to connect on-line LIVE to a site which, from my guess, provided either the headers for the files, or a live encryption key. And you had to be in contact with the website at the time, or it just wouldn't work.
WELL, GUESS WHAT? Just like almost all commercial movie media based websites, the domain (and obviously the site) died very quickly... I believe they only managed to survive for 15 months. So, like the first track of the album, the producers basically said "FAKK U," to anybody who is a fan of the movie, the music, and the magazine. Thanks you greedy bastards!
The second CD is basically nothing more than a coaster, and several hackers have tried to figure out how to access the material, to no avail...
3-1/2 stars for the music, but halve that since the other part of the package is just useless garbage in the form of a polycarbonate disc.
