Nebula - 'Heavy Psych' (Tee Pee Records),
By
This review is from: Heavy Psych (Audio CD)
Haven't heard any new Nebula in a few years now, and I've only heard maybe four or five of their stack of releases but here on 'Heavy Psych', I believe that guitarist Eddie Glass (formerly of Fu Manchu) and crew may have covered some new ground here, possibly - as 'Heavy Psych' {to me, anyway} seems a bit less stoner rock and more (obviously) psychedelic. Notably, this latest Nebula effort has been heavily influenced by the likes of vintage Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix - always a good thing. Tracks I thought showed the most promise were "Dream Submarine", "In The Depths", the awesome "The Other Side" (maybe the best tune of the entire disc) and "Little Wellow Pill". Definitely worth checking out.

This is a very well thought out 60s 70s style hard rock record. All songs are very cool and very heady. If your an older dude like I am and like the 60s 70s far out vibe. You might like this bands trip and where there coming from right now.I know I do.It's a great effort by Eddie Glass and the boys

On their 6th album since 1999, this Los Angeles trio delivers their trademark sound: Hard
psychedelic blues stoner guitar rock of the highest order, with blistering riffs lifted from the heavens. Shades of Hendrix, Fu Manchu (ex-members), Orange Goblin, Monster Magnet, Bad Wizard, Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer.

I was going over my music in iTunes and this band popped up.
Here is the CD that I got by them: Heavy Psych (Tee Pee Records)-2009. Check it out at allmusic.com that gave it a 3.5 star rating OR amazon.com where 3 customers gave it an average rating of 4.5 stars. What you get is 10 songs, 35.1 minutes of music. What I got was 6 songs, 21.4 minutes of above average songs (4 stars and above) with 2 reaching a 5 star rating by me IMHO. I'm giving this CD a rating of 3.9 stars (number of stars / number of tracks). There are 4 throwaways song on it that drags it down. :-( NOTE: The CD cover "Living Stereo" reminds me of the good old days when RCA was putting out some great vinyl albums. :-) I among others were always looking for the "Shaded Dog" audiophile albums by RCA. Here are the standout songs in my opinion: The Dagger - Nebula - 2009 - "The beginning REMINDS me of the Pretty Things at their heaviest with Jimi Hendrix guitar/songwriting." Lead Sky - Nebula - 2009 - "GOOD first impression. They definitely were listening to Jimi Hendrix when they made this song. The BEST on this CD?' NOTE: I uploaded this song to youtube because it wasn't available. |
