I needed to replace a set of aging, dented old stainless mixing bowls. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyplace local that had a decent set. I wanted something heavy and durable, with commercial quality. These certainly fit the bill.
These bowls are made of a thick, high quality stainless steel. They have an edge across the rim that makes gripping them easy and comfortable. They're deep, which means that there is minimal "slop factor" when mixing liquids in them. I have a young daughter who likes to help in the kitchen, and sometimes gets a little over-animated in her mixing!
I've worked as a baker and chef, and can say that these bowls would easily stand up to the rigors of a commercial kitchen. Down sides? Some people may not appreciate the weight. Drop one on your floor and they'll leave a dent in the floor. Drop one on your foot and you may need to visit the doctor. Also, the largest of the four is big, and some may find the set takes up a lot of room in their cupboard. But, I'd say that these are not concerns of anyone wanting an indestructible set of mixing bowls that will last them forever.

When I unpacked these bowls, I was delighted and surprised by how heavy and sturdy these bowls are! They're the perfect variety of sizes for mixing bowls - the largest is good for mixing bread dough, making popcorn, or mixing batches of messy, sticky things that are difficult to mix. The smallest is a great size for beating plenty of eggs for a family breakfast. The in-betweens are great for mixing up batters.
Here are the measurements of the bowls, with the inner diameter (ID) measured at the lip of the bowl, and the depth measured near the center:
3 qt: 8.25" ID, 3.75" Deep, 11.35 oz
5 qt: 9.5" ID, 4.5" Deep, 1 lb 1.4 oz
8 qt: 11" ID, 5.25" Deep, 1 lb 6.1 oz
13 qt: 14" ID, 6" Deep, 2 lbs 1.75 oz
As you can see, the bowls are quite heavy. This is nice because you don't have to worry about heavy utensils tipping them over, and they don't dent or warp easily. Only time I've had one change shape in any way is with the largest bowl, when it was filled with stock, the bottom of the bowl "popped" outward (the bottoms are slightly convex with respect to the inside) when lifted. When I set it back down on the counter, it popped back in, and after the bowl was emptied and cleaned it had it's normal shape and didn't seem to suffer any damage. I think this is because the largest bowl is somewhat shallow and wide compared to the others.
Only problem with the heavy bowls would be if you have a kitchen scale with a low weight limit - many are limited to 5 lbs. If you have a scale like that, and tried to measure some food in one of these bowls, you would lose a great deal of your measuring capability due to the weight of the bowl.... Read more ›

I recently priced these at Sam's Club. Purchased individually, they would have sold for over $60. This is a fantastic price and the sizes are exceptionally useful for the home kitchen / baker. They clean up very easily--I do not every anticipate needing to replace them. Unequivocally recommended.

These bowls are fine and have a good capacity, but I was looking for something more sturdy to replace a couple I bought from an Indian kitchen supply store in my starving student days. I was disappointed that the quality of this set is the same as my old one. They are a great shape--I like the depth and the lip--but they are thin and the bottoms pop in and out. I decided to return them. Based on the older reviews, I think they must have changed the quality recently, because the bowls I received weigh less than half of what another review posted.

I purchased this set of bowls because of the reviews as I do with many of my other purchases. I was not at all blown away the way I thought I should have been because ok #1 - the bowls are not at all HEAVY DUTY as other reviewers have stated. They are heavy when they are stacked together or when they are filled with what ever mixture your making but the actuall make of these bowls are shockingly light. #2- if you drop one of these they will surely get a dent or even if u accidentally bang it on the edge of ur counter or simply drop in your sink. Anyone who has stainless steel measuring cups or bowls will know that it's completely durable and it's resistant against any minor accidents. These bowls are ALUMINUM. I guess for the price that's all you get. On the other hand I find that they are useful and that's the number one reason why I bought them, because of their size and the fact that when I'm baking I hate using bowls thar are too narrow and high or too wide and shallow. These bowls are perfect in diameter for almost any task that I used them for. Although I do use the 8 and 13 quart sizes the most. I 've also grown to like the fact that they are not heavy, I've found that I use them a lot more because they are light weight and efficient in the size department.
They may not be heavy duty stainless steel as advertised but they happen to work just right.

Wonderfully sturdy mixing bowls
