A good overview of storm tactics but not complete,
By A Customer
This review is from: Heavy Weather Sailing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This 55 minute vieo (1987) covers the basics of heavy weather sailing. It includes boat and crew preparation, how to use jacklines and typical storm tactics. The heavy weather drills are actually carried out at sea to add a sense of realism. However the video does not cover all known storm tactics and should not be thought of as a comprehensive review but rather a sampling of options. I recommend this video to sailors who want to see a sampling of heavy weather, but not as replacement for extensive reading and research.

Shows lots of comentary on preparation and active tactics. A little bit light on actual demonstration of tactics. Better than other movies on the subject though. Michaelson

Where's the meat?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Heavy Weather Sailing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I purchased this tape with the hope of learning more about heavy weather sailing. Sadly, this tape came up short. It might be of interest to begining sailors to know to rig Jack lines and how important the harness is and to keep plenty of duct tape onboardbut I was looking for real usefull information, I am still looking.

This is not so much about the tape content as it is about the seller.Piece of junk. Bought it used and the thing never got past the first two minutes and the tape froze. Threw it out. Update: the seller contacted me very quickly after seeing the review and told me they would have been happy to make things right. So I would recommend the seller, but I would recommend they tone down the snottiness of their replies. They implied it may be my equipment's fault, rather than just offering to make it right. However, since they did make an effort, I would upgrade them and may try them again in the future. |
